My Avatar has been displaying properly for 6 months and today it stopped, it's just a white circle! It still shows on my control panel, but not on my private messages?

Given the widespread nature of the issue, it is very safe to say that this wasn’t targeted at any individuals or personal. There may or may not be an announcement explaining what happened, although I do hope there is.

I think you're right. This has got to be a glitch of some kind. I see that avatars of every type have been removed; cartoons, memes, emoji, selfies and tame pics alike. There's no rhyme or reason to it

Same for me. Ugh. You could find images like my avatar on any internet search for women's lingerie.

Basically, guys, just go edit your profile, upload your avatar again, and save the change. It will give you a message saying its going for mod approval. It won't update instantly, but it works.

I changed mine. It only took a couple of hours for it to show up on my story side, and another hour or so for it to propagate to the Forums.

The picture that I’ve been using here on the message board disappeared, and for some reason it started using the picture that I had on my profile on the story section of Lit. So I’m wondering if there was a change that is tying it back to your profile that you created on the story section

Ditto. Original avatar was an "I (insert line drawing of male masturbation)" round shield; now waiting for moderation of a new, simple, presumably uncontroversial bare bones avatar.

Update: I tried uploading a new avatar, namely a stylised letter "S". A few hours later, when I checked back, the new design had been approved by moderation, and it displaced the previous avatar on the stories side, so my avatar is now uniformly an S that might be open to interpretation (a snake? Mr Hankie's cousin? who knows).
