Why in the good ole US of A can you only be a Republican or a Democrat?

Why not have a fkn brain and see that both sides have good and bad, and that it's never as simple as plain black and white. ( No racist pun intended)

The short answer is, the way our political system works right now, there simply isn't any way for a third-party or independent candidate to have a plausible chance at winning. That could change, but for the moment at least, it won't.

"Both sides" are not the same. On one side, the party is essentially controlled at this point by people who openly hate immigrants, transpeople, Muslims, and anyone who doesn't think like them. The other side has its extremists, but right-wing propaganda notwithstanding, they're not in charge of anything.

Also, the kind of blind faith you're describing really isn't happening on both sides either. None of the Democrats I know - myself included - think our leaders are infallible demigods like the right does with Trump.
