This pissed epstein off, and he saw it as clear money-laundering at epstein's own loss and so he began to file court cases against trump. That was the crux of the breakup. trump obviously saw the suits against him as threatening, plus knew that epstein knew all the dirt on trump. Lo and behold, 2006 was when epstein first got arrested before getting that sweetheart deal. epstein remined convinced (according to Wolf and others) that trump was the 'rat' who had 'dropped the dime' on him

Michael Wolf's book was released containing the information about these events, as recorded in an interview with epstein in 2016, from epstein's own mouth, and spoke of the photos of trump with semi-naked girls of 'questionable age' that epstein had taken out of his safe and shown him. The book was released in 2019, and 3 weeks after Wolf claims he was contacted by epstein to say he was worried he'd said too much. This was shortly before epstein's death.
