Trump wins the tariff wars

If the tariffs imposed on the UK, Japan and the EU constitute a trade “war”, those wars are analogous to the war in Crimea. A very one-sided war in which Russia simply took control of the country.
Raising blanket tariffs constitute the initiation of aggressive behavior which results in other countries retaliating (i.e. starting a trade war)

Having private discussions regarding changing or tariffs policies are how you don't initiate one
Relating this to Russia's invasion of Ukraine is laughable.

China and the US represents a real trade war, more analogous to the Russia Ukraine war. Both side are fighting and bleeding.
China initiated a trade war with the global community long ago by initiating blanket tariffs and IP poaching.

As I’ve said several times on this board, I prefer free trade and have been concerned about the potential impact these president’s trade policies. So far, my fears have not materialized. I’m not predicting they won’t cause harm in the future.
I don't give a fuck about your feelings.

I do see one significant positive development from a political perspective. The left has long argued that taxes on businesses don’t get passed on to consumers. They’ve wanted to raise corporate income taxes for years. Now they’re arguing that taxes on businesses do in fact get passed on to consumers. That’s quite a change.
The difference is how those taxes get distributed and why. When corporations make record profits and still pass cost to consumers, it will always be seen as exploitation since these are American companies. Tariffs are a different beast. Nuanced, absolutely, but absolutely different

IDK. I haven’t seen any documents and I don’t know if anyone in the media or investment community has either. What we do know is the US is collecting tariffs that have averaged about 5x or more than they were before “liberation day.” These happened in the absence of any specific deals.

Is anyone claiming the rates announced for the UK, Japan, and the EU are not going into effect? We saw the head of the EU sit in front of the media sitting next to President Trump and openly acknowledged the 15% tariffs.
you poor dumb bastard.

Fools still believe trump's bullshit - these are not deals, they are press release BS.

The EU says 24 hours after trump's bluster that they have no way to enforce 600B investment in US - in other words they will tell him anything and he can fool his MAGAts.

Japan, also told him about 500B investment in US, now it's not true, The Saudis also the same - 1.3T not materialising. China likewise.
So nothing signed, no details, no timeline - they all know that they can say anything to Trump to make him go away and they know all he wants are some soundbites that make him look good to fools who don't know what am important tax is

You can look it up. The US currently is collecting 10% from the EU. The 15% starts Friday, August 1st.
*The US is collecting 10% from consumers that import EU goods. 15% starts August 1st.

US BMW and other European car buyers will pay more to our government.

The one where I pointed out that you MAGAts are nothing but beta simps for a retarded racist.
Laurence Tribe, once a legal scholar, now just a glorified Twitter troll with tenure, casually vomits up the idea that tens of millions of Americans, plumbers, nurses, veterans, cops, small business owners, are somehow accessories to political assassinations because they didn’t vote the way he likes. This is the desperate flailing of a man who’s watched the Democratic Party morph from "party of the people" into a snide collection of elitism and projection. Calling people “MAGAts” might get him applause from blue-check cultists, but it says more about his intellectual bankruptcy than any indictment he’s trying to make. The real "permission structure" is one where deranged professors think slandering half the country as terrorists is a noble act of resistance. It’s the ranting of a bitter relic clinging to relevance like a dusty law review footnote no one’s read since the Cold War, and the same goes for his unhinged sycophants like you, swinging that phrase like a Nerf cudgel and thinking you’ve landed a mortal blow.

Trump has given the EV market to China. The chip market to China. And the rare earth mineral market to China.

Fun times.

The largest BMW plant in the world is in Spartanburg, SC. I don’t know how many parts are produced elsewhere, but the company announced pricing on its new 2026 models last month. From Car and Driver:

“As reported by CarsDirect, a bulletin was sent to BMW dealerships last week stating that the MSRP of most 2026 BMW models will go up by 1.9 percent beginning on July 1, 2025. The price increases will reportedly not affect 2025 BMW inventory.

“The nearly 2 percent price increase also won't affect every model in BMW's lineup. The main exceptions are its 2026-model-year EVs, the i5 and the iX. (Pricing for the 2026 i4 and i7 has not been published.) The Alpina XB7, 2026 2-series Gran Coupe, and 2026 M2 are also reportedly unaffected.

“CarsDirect says the bulletin doesn't blame the import tariffs implemented by the U.S. government for the price hikes, instead stating that the rises are "in line with past pricing communications, and account for inflation and enhancements to standard equipment where applicable."

That’s not to say everyone should be happy. Although the 2026 price increases are lower than the current inflation rate, and some models will not be raised at all, low income and struggling middle class BMW buyers will be hit hard. Especially able-bodied Medicaid recipients who are unwilling to commit 20 hours a week to work, volunteer, or get job training.

“On the top end, the price hikes amount to $2500 for models such as the X5 M, which rises from $127,200 to $129,700, according to CarsDirect.”

Taiwan dominates the chip market. The EV market is dropping in the US.

This is what a habitual liar told you. He also told you that he'd end all wars on day one.

Are you ever going to stop being a gullible dipshit?

They already stated they have no control over private companies to invest 600B, so no, they're not investing and they were already going to purchase energy from US so nothing new there.

That's a groundless assumption on your part.

What is groundless? There is no signed deal and EU companies will only invest in US manufacturing, etc if it makes economic sense - ask the shareholders if this is an assumption.

The EU already were moving away from Russian energy and LPG purchase from US has increased since the war in Ukraine and continues to increase

LoOk at the figures and explanation here

The term “trade wars” implies fighting, retaliation, and escalation. In the case of the EU, we haven’t seen much of that. Trump sold them continued access to the US market in return for Europe paying 15% tariffs and spending a bit more money for it’s own defense. The EU had drawn up retaliatory plans but didn’t pull the trigger. They’re relieved the tariff rate isn’t higher.

Maybe we’ll learn differently as this agreement takes effect, but for now it appears the US gave up nothing.
Maybe, like Canada, the EU will take the easiest route and work around Trump's tariffs too. Have you seen the posts about Canada avoiding his tariffs? It doesn't look good for us with the rising costs of steel, copper, potash, and... tomatoes.

Prices are rising because of the tariffs: vehicles-6 to 10k, food-3%, housing-14K, and god knows what else. I'm guessing the cost of building that border wall is up as well. :)
