Trump wins the tariff wars

The one where I pointed out that you MAGAts are nothing but beta simps for a retarded racist.

You mean the one where you barfed, licked it up, and then burped because it tasted better the second time around?

Let the record reflect that this idiot doxxed himself while trying to prove how smart he was.

Lol, let's remind EVERYONE how fucking stupid you were when you took an image from a post of mine, researched it on a State run server system, spent time eliminating other possible people, and then created a new account in my real name, posted my real address, and now continue to claim that I was the one who did it.

Oh wait, that wasn't you. It was someone else who just looks like you, posts like you, and was banned multiple times like you. How do I know this? Because you're new here, right? Which is sort of an admission on your part that you needed to create another account after you burned several in a row with that shit you did.

You seriously need help dude because your brain is malf'ed beyond comprehension

I didn't do any of that, Derpy. Your ego won't let you believe that I'm not the only one who thinks you're a fucking idiot.

Are you implying that DA is an alt? A reincarnated BOBO?

How would anyone know if he did or not? He lies so much, so often about everything, anything the man says and does, is suspect... His word means nothing, and he cant be trusted...You all knew this when you voted for him, so this is what you want in a president...No wonder you arent satisfied with a Democrat president.

The term “trade wars” implies fighting, retaliation, and escalation. In the case of the EU, we haven’t seen much of that. Trump sold them continued access to the US market in return for Europe paying 15% tariffs and spending a bit more money for it’s own defense. The EU had drawn up retaliatory plans but didn’t pull the trigger. They’re relieved the tariff rate isn’t higher.

Maybe we’ll learn differently as this agreement takes effect, but for now it appears the US gave up nothing.

No one wins trade wars. Except politically. Consumers are always fucked.

There hasn’t been much of a war with the UK, Japan, and the EU. The terms were set by the US and agreed upon by our trading partners without retaliation. The US has given up nothing. It’s likely similar outcomes will occur with Canada, Mexico, Vietnam, S. Korea and other trading partners but we’ll have to wait and see.

There is definitely a trade war with China however. That one was sparked during Trump’s first term, heated up under Biden, and has amplified dramatically since Trump returned to office. No telling what happens on that front.

the EU and others really don't need to negotiate. all they have to do is wait and trump and company will change the terms unilaterally or pull out of the concept of a trade deal. there has been so much bluff and bluster but so little substance concerning trade talks. and what has happened especially to american automakers is a disgrace.

Yes, you're deflecting.

Yes, you're deflecting.
No, you’re deflecting. My point is that trade wars have not materialized with the EU and other countries that have recently struck agreements. They simply agreed to US terms.

You’re making a different point about the impact these agreements will have on consumers. To date, the effects have been mild at worst. While prices have gone up on certain products, and overall inflation ticked up to 2.7% in June (slightly higher than the 2.4% average over the past 20 years, but lower than the 4.95% average under Biden), we haven’t seen the spike that many have been predicting this year. So far, most of the cost has been absorbed by exporters. GM and Stellantis are examples. The jury is still out on how tariff policy will impact US inflation.

what deals have been signed and enacted?

Trade wars hurt consumers.
Negotiable terms don't require a war.

Yes, businesses have absorbed costs because they have expected short term losses. (Probably look at the stock market for the first six months for reference)

It won't continue. We have already seen price increases on housing and beef which have not been able to absorb those costs. The ability for businesses to stay ahead of the tariffs is at an end.

Procter & Gamble on Tuesday reported quarterly results that beat Wall Street's expectations, but introduced fiscal year 2026 guidance that included a $1 billion hit due to higher costs from tariffs.

IDK. I haven’t seen any documents and I don’t know if anyone in the media or investment community has either. What we do know is the US is collecting tariffs that have averaged about 5x or more than they were before “liberation day.” These happened in the absence of any specific deals.

Is anyone claiming the rates announced for the UK, Japan, and the EU are not going into effect? We saw the head of the EU sit in front of the media sitting next to President Trump and openly acknowledged the 15% tariffs.

If the tariffs imposed on the UK, Japan and the EU constitute a trade “war”, those wars are analogous to the war in Crimea. A very one-sided war in which Russia simply took control of the country.

China and the US represents a real trade war, more analogous to the Russia Ukraine war. Both side are fighting and bleeding.

As I’ve said several times on this board, I prefer free trade and have been concerned about the potential impact these president’s trade policies. So far, my fears have not materialized. I’m not predicting they won’t cause harm in the future.

I do see one significant positive development from a political perspective. The left has long argued that taxes on businesses don’t get passed on to consumers. They’ve wanted to raise corporate income taxes for years. Now they’re arguing that taxes on businesses do in fact get passed on to consumers. That’s quite a change.
