In November of 2024, Joel Lang was charged with the murder of 47-year-old Kristy Kerst in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Monument.

The DA said Lang hit Kerst’s vehicle, and when Kerst exited her vehicle to check for damage, Lang hit Kerst and dragged her hundreds of feet while driving away.

On June 27, officials with the 4th Judicial District announced Lang’s murder case was dismissed after the court found him incompetent to continue through trial, and that “his competency could not be restored.”
