I saw it yesterday. There most definitely is a between-the-lines message of supporting and respecting immigrants. Little wonder the usual suspects are trying so hard to believe otherwise!

It's sad we can't simply have a movie just be a movie without this garbage getting into it.

My daughter went and saw it at a premiere and said she didn't think it had any type of messaging. This is all James Gunn being the absolute tool bag he always has been and hurting his own product with his stupidity.

For anyone cheering for him, this is the same guy the left cancelled for all his pro pedophile tweets, but being the left they quickly forget that and embrace anyone who sucks their ass.

Gunn hit lightning in a bottle with the first Guardians movie, but since then just tries to shove stupid over the top humor into everything and its been failing. GOTG 2 wasn't as good as the first, the third was awful and Suicide Squad sucked.

I've never been a Superman fan and most likely won't watch this, but not over anything political just apathy toward the character and disdain for the director's lack of respect for source material and his unending arrogance.

And FFS get rid of that stupid haircut, you're not 20 anymore.

At the end it was just another Superman movie. The things I have issues with I already knew going in but you would have to be a real fanboy to understand them.

I hate how they handled the Engineer. There may be longer term plans for the character. She belongs to a team called the authority which has its own movie in early stages of development so a lot remains to be seen. Depends on what version they end up with. The comic has a rep of being compared to "the Boys" and they might lean heavily into that. Gunn definitely draws a lot of inspiration from this comic. The "Justice Gang" in this movie behaved a lot more like a group called "the Elite" which in the comics is a satire/spoof group of the Authority that fights Superman. The movie itself was basically a storyline from the Authority comic.

While it's not a flop I don't think it's pulling the numbers needed to blow up into a franchise the way it was initially announced. I'm expecting to see a lot of proposed projects getting the axe.

I did end up seeing this yesterday because the wife wanted to go seeing Superhero movies are the only thing we have in common movie wise.

I can't see a movie about the engineer doing anything, way to obscure to all but solid fans but that doesn't seem to stop them these days.

Gunn is barely a notch above Waititi at this point but at least he doesn't shove himself into his own movies.

The inherent issue with Superman for me is he's overpowered. That reared its head big time in the Snyder version.

One thing I'll give this movie is they did get away from Snyder's "Above us all dark brooding god" spin and made him back into a decent person with feelings.

But as far as the point of the thread, which is pushing politics, just didn't see it that much but that depends on the person. As the saying goes, look hard enough for something you can see it. Like I said in my first post, the politics part of it comes from Gunn running his mouth for attention. I miss the days when a movie was a movie and you could like it for what it was not because you're looking for woke points or dislike it and not be called a bigot or an ist.

It was the 'meh' I thought it would be. Not awful, but nothing special. Krypto was funny, but they pushed that a little too much.

But the one thing about these threads is you know half the people in it know nothing about comic books, but if they can spin it to attack something they're all experts. Same as everything else

I liked comics when I was young and I've been involved with several somewhat nerdy types who really LOVED comics but I guess I've never really gotten Superman. He's just always seemed too perfect.
