Superman's Just Been Killed at the Box Office

Lol...
The movie is the top rated movie of the year.

The dude doesn't give a shit about your grievances. He doesn't owe you an explanation
From the article:

"Back to Superman, the movie is suffering from disappointing box-office sales. It has generated hundreds of millions of dollars. However, it costs hundreds and millions more to produce and market. Movies that expensive rely on a global audience to make up the difference. Superman isn't hitting it's marks."

Have you rushed in to bathe in the new woke version?

I saw the movie and enjoyed it.

You may have had to cry to mommy about your worries.

"Superman" director James Gunn drops new excuse for his movie failing: how much the world hates America

Let me clear from the jump: I saw Superman and thought it was excellent. It was non-political. It had nothing to do with the illegal immigration debate that the left and the media (but I repeat myself) claims is an immigration debate. It was a fun comic book movie. But it's 2025, and we can't have nice things. James Gunn, after first refusing to take the bait and then allegedly taking the bait, is now using politics as a scapegoat for disappointing ticket sales.

Funny, because I had expected this to be an issue with Fantastic Four, though through no fault of the movie and entirely because of the press. Our culture wars start with journalismers who don't cover politics wanting to insert their politics into everything. Actors answer politically charged questions awkwardly because, silly them, thought they were there to answer questions about a movie. Everyone else has a knee-jerk reaction and gets their clicks in.

You admit the movie isn’t “woke” like you pretended it was, but you’re still whining about it for … reasons.

MAGA sheep are so weird.

The movie is doing very well at the box office:

Superman crossed the $400 million mark globally in less than two weeks thanks to strong legs, including $236.2 million domestically and $173 million overseas through Sunday, July 20. It’s doing strong midweek business; through July 22, the domestic tally stood at $253.2 million.

Wait, when did Superman become “woke”??

It is doing ok but not at all well overseas. He is telling non-US audiences it is not really American. His interview with EW was pathetic.
I don't know who told you that, but it's a big hit in Australia.

Could be. It has broken a lot of records for a superhero movie and leads the pack in many ways. But it needs to make $700 million worldwide to break even. So far, it is at $500 million.

Kind of silly that we are all debating movies, but when Gunn (who is creepy as hell) says this movie is anti-Maga, it becomes political. He hates me and I hate him.

I'm pleased with how things are playing out. It was successful enough to warrant future dcu projects but not successful enough to give gun free reign. This means they're keeping him on a leash. I wasn't that excited with much of what he proposed. Loving what I'm hearing so I'm good.

Personally I loved the movie. Sucks that everything is so divisive. Its like people are afraid to say they liked it.

700 million dollars to 'break even'?

How Interesting.

The Variety article you linked us to claimed the movie's production cost was $225 million and marketing costs were another $125 million.

According to my reality-based calculator app, that comes out to $350 million, which is roughly half the amount you claimed.

You did manage to correctly tell us the correct gross as of last Friday ($500 million) and the film earned another $78 million worldwide over the past three day weekend, for a life-to-date gross worldwide of $578 million dollars.

So my question to you is....are you privy to some sort of inside information we mere mortals lack access to?
Or did you simply go "Full TACO" and make up a random break-even point out of thin air?

Let me do some Hollywood and capitlist math for you. You seem to think the studios collect all the money paid by people at movie theaters. News flash: the theaters keep around half.
Therefore, if you take in $700 million, the studio gets $350 million. That is break even. Their shareholders need them to make more than that to justify their salaries and their greenlighting movies.
You have obviously never worked in this industry nor even read any relevant articles in the trades. You are also a child to not realize that theaters take/make money on movies.
Typical.
