Doesn't read all the comments they receive? I'm not sure when this started for me, but it's been at least a couple of years. There are stories here that when I see I have a comment I don't bother reading it. These are mostly on older stories and ones that are stroky or just plain stupid in the sense the premis is pure porn. "My Mother's a Horny Drunk" perfect example. As simple and absurd as it sounds, as is any comment on it. What are they going to say? That was hawt! get mom pregnant next! or "That sucked, grow up." Nothing meaningful is coming out of it. I have a bunch like that parsed out over the years and in between others

I wonder if I've turned into a porn snob even with my own work. Am I ashamed of them? Or have I been here so long I just don't care enough to see what Joeylovesmommyboobs has to say about a not to be taken that seriously story?

There are stories I'll check the comments on, ones I took more seriously, were meant to be taken more seriously, and because of it I'm interested in what people think.

But FWIW? Even with those its often "That's hawt" "You suck" or "I want more chapters!"

I always check comments on LW stories because I find it amusing to be insulted by men with rabies.

I hardly ever read the comments. Sometimes I will skim through a batch, find them mostly dull and boring, and then remind myself why I hardly ever read the comments.

I do read all of mine, although I completely sympathize with the impulse to ignore comments on stories I considered kind of a throwaway (especially in I/T). The most significant thing I would have missed there was someone who seemed disappointed because they thought the story wasn’t up to my usual standard. At least they noticed! 🤣

I rarely watch tv and haven't for years. I'll watch short clips on You Tube but the last series I watched start to finish was haunting of hillhouse and that was the first thing in a long time. Don't watch many movies either. Every once in a while I'll go in the living room while my wife is watching something, watch for a few minutes, or see ads for upcoming shows/movies and know I'm not missing anything. Same with these comments, a few weeks ago I did take a look at a couple on those stories and yeah, I'm not losing out on anything.

I do feel bad in the sense of at least they took the time to say something, most don't, but it's the same damn thing over and over

I read all mine.

This thread made me go back read the comments on some of my recent stories because I didn't remember getting many brain-dead comments. I didn't have anything like that, even in I/T. I do get some repetition. I don't mind repetitive compliments. Repetitive critical comments make me think I have work to do.

PORN SNOB! PORN SNOB! :D

But I don''t answer every one of them. A handful will get deleted, and a few more will be ignored. Maybe I answer 90%? Some recent stories have gotten no comments at all. Once in a while an older story will get one.
Everyone handles things based on what they feel is right.

Personally, I don't respond to comments for several reasons. I understand why someone might want to respond to a particular comment, but the people who respond to every single comment just seems needy to me. That and it stat pads. You see a story has 50 comments and you think there's a lot of interest, then you see 25 are from the author.

I had to chuckle a bit at this one, because this is what you call, in Literotica terms, a First-World problem. Lovecraft's situation is understandable, because by normal standards he gets a frikking enormous number of comments. I do pretty well in terms of views, but I get nowhere close to as many comments as that dude gets. If I haven't published in a while, I get only the occasional comment, so I check every single one.

This is what one calls a good problem to have!

I've never gotten close to fifty comments with one exception. I had a Loving Wives story (one of only two) with 33 (six years ago!) and I answered four of them. Looking at it again, it seems to hold up better than some of the other stuff I wrote in that era.

I answer comments that ask a direct question about the piece, because even if that commenter doesn't return to read my reply? If they had a question, someone else probably did too.

Totally agree with your assessment. I don't see this as a 'problem' just wondering if there's others here who feel the same way. If it is a problem, then it would be mine in the sense of becoming a bit jaded over time.

Also, I don't know why I get that many comments to begin with, especially when the last few years I think I might average two new stories a year. I don't analyze stats the way you and many others do, but someone told me that I get way more comments than other popular authors in whatever genres I put stories in. Why? I have no idea because I don't consider myself better-or worse-than any other writer here. Maybe its just longevity and a decent sized story file.

I get it, but what sucks is that back in the past you could put a subject title for a comment and say "@ so and so" in case that person came back or readers would know right away who you were addressing, and they can't do that anymore. Early on I would respond once in a while if the comment really resonated with me.

This is more frustrating with private feedback when someone sends you a great comment or has a question and....they sent it anon.

I don't get enough comments not to read them all. I very rarely get comments on the back catalogue either. But I never respond to comments, so possibly that keeps the numbers down.
