Disaster frequency and severity in Texas may force the state government to adapt faster than other states to emergency response without federal assistance. It may create examples for other states to copy, maybe with less bluster. Any state could start with whatever they did before FEMA, NWS, etc. existed.

One of the long term solutions is people spend more time outside as farmers, gardeners, bicycle commuters, etc. and learn how to read the actual weather instead of checking their phones.

I must reiterate that some KEY positions at the NWS were VACANT at the time of the flood due to DonOld & the DOGE bros cuts and forced retirements. And one KEY position that was VACANT is quite important & relevant as far as this debate is concerned

Imagine being a teenage girl who’s working as a camp counselor for a bunch of little girls when a fast and devastating storm hits and you have very little time to react. Now imagine being one of those counselors who just survived the most traumatizing moments of her life only to find out that some of the little girls in her camp passed away, and then she goes online and reads some of the horrific comments that adults are posting just to make a political point. The only reason why anyone outside of Central Texas should be online discussing this flood event is to post links for fundraising efforts, help, and any other useful resources. Not to talk shit about people you don’t know during the worst moments of their lives. Grow up. These families and survivors deserve support and love and prayers. They are not a political football.

One “conservative” wannabe politician from Nevada yesterday slammed parents for sending their children to sleep away camps and mockingly said all the boys survived because there is definitely a difference between the sexes. The governor said the same.
