The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Oo. You must have signatures turned off. I play oboe among many other instruments, but it's oboe for this gig. My chops are aching just in the thinking about it.

I was just telling C my realization that this production is being put together by a young man apparently on a post-graduate track, and the enormity of the entire project seems to have the scent of a Masters or even PhD thesis. He's done that to us before, writing a chamber work that was fine on the computer, but a total bitch to play. He wanted live performers for the submission recording. He didn't get a usable take.
No I am just oblivious. Both beautiful instruments. I wish I had any musical aptitude. My SO plays flute and clarinet.

Do you pick the pup up to weigh him?

It doesn't get muddy here--not for long, anyway. Aside from being dry, it's sand most everywhere.

Work in the garden is slacking off. The garlic is harvested. The tomatoes are setting fruit. The gladiolas are starting to flower. Everything else is growing, but some if it's going to be late. I guess that'll mean less time to get sick of it.

I wrote version 3.0 of the denouement for my WIP. I think it finally has all the elements that I wanted. I've put the whole thing through a "final" read. It's nearly done but I'll wait until after the 5th to submit it so I don't get crossed up with the last stories going to the Nude Day contest. I still don't expect it to be a popular story, but if the readers piss on it, then they'll piss on a pretty good story. At least I'll have Zelda out of my head.
I have to lift him into to back seat of my ute/pick up, and my comment was "Ooof, you're getting fucking heavy!". But no, I took him to the vet and got him to stand on their scales.

The yard doesn't get muddy as such. We have a black fine sandy soil that he drags through the house. It's a bugger to clean up.

Climb up on the cappuccino machine. It isn't being used for anything else.
So that's who's feet they are! I thought they were Tx's little Japanese lady who powers the whole lot on her bicycle.

i don't know about anyone else, but i give the machine a workout. It's just no one else is around. Bloody timezones...

OMG. I just wrote a LW piece with a BTB ending. One scene touch-up, and it's done. Still not sure if I want to go there. I'm not used to "going dark."

@MillieDynamite - there's a step stool in the corner. Don't climb on the cappuccino machine. You might fall off.

It's going to be another sunny and hot day. I'll be going to the farmers market today and see what's available (assuming I don't melt).

I've got a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are muffins and danish on the counter. There's also a bowl of fresh fruit on the counter (peaches, blueberries, Lodi apples, and blackberries).

I'll be over in the corner writing away, trying to figure out where my characters want to take the story ...

You can always create an alt for the darkside. "MrD"

I dunno. The story is pretty dark and I'm having some trouble mustering the interest to edit. Definitely not my style, and a bit unsettling.

I'm taking the "alt" suggestion under advisement.

Currently working on 1 story, 1 novel to close out a series of three novels, novel #3 in a series of 6 novels, and novel #1 in a series of 8 novels
I hope my keyboard holds out

Phew.....I think I finally fixed it.

It's been a month since I first submitted Chapters 2-3 of my story. They still aren't live. They were rejected finally around the 20th of last month, for supposed AI (False flag) And I've been racking my brain on what to do. I've looked for editors to help, had no luck so far.

Then, I decided, it was time to rewrite. And I'm so glad I did. I found SOOOO many mistakes.

More importantly, I found mistakes that may explain the false AI flag...

1: I had a grouping of three paragraphs that was repeated twice in a row. Actually I found that two different times.
2: I found a few instances where I made common AI mistakes like Having my MFC running around topless, but three paragraphs before that, I had her putting her shirt on.. AI is famous for forgetting crucial details like that. (Unfortunately so am I when I stop writing for an entire week, get super busy, and then start again.)
3: I found an entire section just completely missing from my story. And not just a minor section. But like, Halfway through a sex scene, it just stops. Things are heating up real good, and then suddenly, they are all just laying there on the bed relaxing, with nothing in between...I know I wrote the rest of the sex scene....but I don't know where it went....

So, I fixed all of that, along with a bunch of other small re-writes. Some repetitive wording, and some rephrasing. And I am happy with the outcome. Now I just need to get my wife to give it a once over tonight, and then I can submit it.

(If anyone else is interested in giving it a look, I'd be very appreciative)

message me -- you seemed to have messages turned off. I may be willing to take a look.

Use the Dark-Power, my young Acolyte! Remember, the Dark is with you always.

'Preciate the sentiments on my dark story, all, but I realized during a long drive today that the plot has a severe timing problem. The FMC goes from playful partner to venomous snake in the space of an hour. It simply doesn't work. The overall tale admittedly fascinates me (as it has an IRL basis), but until I arrive at a realistic device for the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde transition, it'll be back-burnered.

I may excise the fantasy conclusion, and let the IRL resolution conclude the story. It's not as satisfying (nor is it BTB), just a bit of interpersonal angst. That'll leave the LW crowd with "Shit. That's all? You're a fuckin' cuckold/cocksucker/wimp/etc. You should just kill yourself." You guys know the drill.

On a lighter note, C and I celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary today. We put the dog in daycare and motored off to a nice restaurant in a small city about an hour away. The food was too rich and too expensive, and the table next to us featured an overstimulated 2-year-old (a family can afford these prices?), but we had a reasonable time going out, and returned to the studio for a half-hour of hot tub time before our real lives resumed.

Well, congrats on the 36 years!

Another hot day with a cookout to look forward to this afternoon. At least I don't need to pay to go see a fireworks show. My neighborhood shoots off more backyard fireworks than were fired during the attack on Fort McHenry in Baltimore Harbor ...

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. I got some fresh blueberries at the farmers market yesterday and made some blueberry muffins which are still warm and on the counter.

My latest story is now live. Eight months between stories is a long time, but I hope to publish two more before the end of the year. I'll be over in the corner trying to write but I'll probably just be refreshing my Authors Control Panel to see how my new story is doing.

Blueberry muffins for breakfast!

Up to about 50K on my first attempt at a single longer piece, so about halfway there. I have made a full first pass edit of what I have written.

I moved to this small town from the Denver area, on my first Independence Day I was alone setting up the new house while Mrs. D closed out the old house and helped the new owners move in. Fireworks back there were harshly controlled, but in my tiny village at the edge of several hundred acres of Georgia pine the sky was filled with light. Chrysanthemums of blazing color filled the inky black sky, streaks of sparks traced the rise of rockets, whistles, bangs, thumps. I heard music from several parties, the laughing of children in the splash party near by, and the words of what John Adams said about Independence Day came back to me

'I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.'
- John Adams

🚀Happy Independence day America!!! 🎆

The happiness of America is intimately connected with the happiness of all mankind; she is destined to become the safe and venerable asylum of virtue, of honesty, of tolerance, and quality and of peaceful liberty.”
— Marquis de Lafayette

Congratulations getting the story out!

Mine waits 'til after the fifth. I have things to do in the mean time, but that doesn't stop me from thinking about what I might do to strengthen the story. Are readers going to understand Alex? (I figure he's good to go) Does the climactic scene need to be fleshed out? (another paragraph would help) Etc.

Coffee, toast and yogurt for breakfast here, but not until after I make the cats happy and take the morning garden tour. Then I'll dive into predicting how towns in the Texas panhandle will get water for the next 100 years. It's one fantasy that takes more work than most.

50K is bigger than any single story/part/chapter I've posted. Trying to edit that would shut my mind down.

It is intimidating me. I am rereading it chunks at a time. When it is to that stage, it is going to take a long time to listen to it.

Ok, finished another scene. Time to give the cat her insulin and go get something other than Candy_Kane's blueberry muffin for sustenance. I think my SO and I get to have a meal by our selves, which happens too rarely since my son and his partner moved back in.
