So this is an idea that could easily work as non erotic but I think it could also work as an erotic story

super short version: town has been taken over by a monster that feeds off of its victims by surrounding them in a nostalgic version of the town that never really existed and then eating them body and soul. As it eats it grows bigger and now it IS the town.

1. Guy got fired from his job and reluctantly calls his mom and dad to ask if he can move in. He’s ashamed, especially since his parents’ health wasn’t great. But when he gets there, they are doing great. His diabetic mom looks 10 years younger and she’s making all of his favorites for breakfast. His dad is happily enjoying his retirement and helps him with his bags no problem despite a botched hip surgery the year before.

He then finds his childhood sweetheart and she is doing great. She looks amazing and they quickly fall back into each others’ beds. The town is even throwing a big festival like when the man was a kid.

Only weird thing is his cell phone’s reception is all over the place. People call him from his old apartment and get cut out, only old videos pop up on YouTube, and social media posts are old.

He manages to break away from the town for a day and his phone is exploding with texts from his pissed off boss who wanted him to work till the end of the month, his landlord saying he owes them fees, and his socials suddenly show modern things: the big argument he had with his dad, his childhood sweetheart talking about how she lost her kids after a relapse, his mom going blind.

He goes back to town and everything is fine. He snuggles up with his old/new girlfriend and his fingertips trace over strange marks on her arms but as they make love she asks him if leaving brought him any joy and as he remembers what happened, the messages he received, and gives into the delusion

2. Woman brings her kids with her after she escaped a DV situation. It’s a rough transition but she’s trying her best. To her surprise, the old pizza place is still open and she is able to bond with her kids over her favorite place when she was growing up.

Things start to go smoother, she finds another woman who recently moved in and they find themselves in a relationship. She signs her kids up for school and takes a tour of the old high school. She remembers events from her school life…but she also notices there’s severe gaps. On too of that, there are almost no other kids enrolled and the teacher she had as a kid is still teaching there. The school also has rooms missing.

Still it’s summer. Maybe everyone enrolls late…but things aren’t adding up. And during a particularly bad storm during which she’s hooking up with her new girlfriend, the illusion is dropped when a lightning bolt hits city hall: the gaps are of all the times she was bullied. The missing rooms are where she self-harmed or had a breakdown when she was hiding…and all the kids she saw around town disappeared.

Girlfriend tells her she must be dreaming. After all, she’s been in town for a year and everything has been fine. She just needs to go back to sleep. MC wants to go check on her kids and her girlfriend tells her “shhh, you’re dreaming. You don’t have any kids. You only need to worry about yourself here.”

3. Truck stop has been infested. Since it can’t have abandoned trucks pile up, it instead lets them have quickies and sensations that make them have the full experience without killing them they then pass on stories about the amazing lil town off the highway where you can get your dick sucked and and an old fashioned made from scratch cherry pie. So when tourists or truckers who are off the clock come, the monster can feed freely

I love the first one. I think you could make it interesting with a lot of twists and turns.

Pleasantville with a touch of Stepford Wives plus a cosmic horror with explicit sexual scenes?

Phew, that's a doozy. I wouldn't dare dip my toes into a project this complex. Would totally read it, though.

This is like a mash up of The Truman Show, Pleasantville and a horror novel written by Dean Koontz 'Phantoms' as far as the monster goes.

Has potential for an HP Lovecraft deity set up as well.

Kudos on a really cool idea that doesn't involve rape or someone's mom or wife.

A unicorn.

Thank ya! I’ve been listening/reading to some Grady Hendrix, Johnathan Sims’ “Thirteen Storeys,” Josh Malerman’s “Goblin: a novel in six parts,” and “Strength Unleashed: Startup” and I think that little stew is what generated the idea along with a recent trip home which I needed to get away from my current stressors but was a good reminder how everything isn’t exactly rosy there.

I considered it just for non erotic but I’ve also been thinking about how nostalgia can affect the way we saw past hookups and relationships. The best friend we spent so much time with who was probably a sociopath (personal experience) or we didn’t see obvious red flags, or that first time that we remember but probably wasn’t actually that great or with a partner who we didn’t really have much of a connection with.

Then I just thought: you always know the people who can never escape a small town? What if the town was a literal trap that fed on everyone within it?
