Let's not forget there's good news in the colorful, diverse, awesome, queer world

Here us some more good news we should recognize. Widespread and weekly repeated demonstrations at Tesla dealerships, including in the city closest to where I live, are forcing anti-trans oligarch Elon Musk to retreat from his role as Trump's main hatchet man.

Mass resistance works.

Resistance works even better when it is kept non-violent, according to this article in the BBC.

If the American protests against Tesla had just been a few scattered acts of vandalism, they would not be forcing Musk to retreat from his fascist quest to chainsaw essential services and rights. Vandalism was being addressed with security monitoring and law enforcement.

It was the mass movement of ordinary citizens repeatedly giving up their weekends (when people go car shopping) to picket in a lawful manner that made the difference.

These were expertly timed mass protests that targeted a vulnerable aspect of an oligarch's economic domain. It involved selecting the right vulnerability, organizing lawful assembly, and repeatedly sacrificing personal weekend time to affect car sales at the various dealerships.

Woman’s hour is a daily national radio programme that I try to listen to when I have chance. Today they featured a barrister trans woman who responded to the recent pronouncement by the uk Supreme Court. It’s notable that their literal interpretation of the meaning of the word ‘woman’ has been heralded by the labour govt as providing clarity to the ‘ vexing’ question of transgender people. It is anything but.

I was irritated that the interviewer was playing devils advocate but she quickly ran out of points. The barrister cited that if the law was changed to match a literal interpretation then a mother couldn’t take her young boy into a restroom with her.
‘But this means trans people will need special changing rooms’ ‘No, because that would contravene their human right to privacy. We used to provide special restrooms for black people didn’t we.’

The barrister was certain the ruling by the SC and the politically governed EHRC ( equality and human rights committee) will be challenged in the European court of human rights and will win, because similar cases have been rejected before.
Should the govt try to resign from its 1951 commitment to the European court, there will be riots.

So on a personal note, my meeting with HR at work has been cancelled so I will continue to use the correct toilet for me - the women’s.

Woman's hour again, but their obligation for balance means that they have given equal platforms to LGB Alliance, Sex Matters and Women Scotland.
Amnesty International provided a spokesperson who was able to point to the need to interpret the ruling by the SC. They did not say trans women could not used shared spaces.

Pattiegonia was involved it looks like, they are so much fun with some of their wild and unexpected actions 💥
When I was still at IG I followed them for their queer take on life.
Oh okay - I've not heard of them before

Pattiegonia has been a pretty vocal activist for trans and queer issues, as I'm no longer on IG I don't follow them anymore so don't directly know if they are still speaking up as much, but seeing your post I am guessing they are.
They are from Bend Oregon, a town near & dear to me! Beautiful place I'd love to live at, and some distant family connections there.

Yes, Bend has a strong progressive element these days, as do a number of other communities on the West Coast of the USA.

Live and let live.

A yarn shop in Texas of all places!
This is is sweet and warming to read specially because for many it is hard to imagine good news for the LGBTQ+ community coming out of this state.
All I can say is this store owner is awesome 💥

Indeed. Good news is difficult to find in Texas so it was very nice to see something positive for a change.

Hate to read about this kinda stuff happening, but the neighbors response are wonderful!
One thing that jumped out to me was apparently the same individual broke windows and spray painted places.
Where is the right wing response to that?
They are so fast to throw accusations about how "violent" left leaning action are, but so silent now?

One of the last documents I need to update to reflect my true identity is my passport. Of course I hesitated back when the Biden admin was still in office and than on day one or close the current admin shut down updating passports for transgender folk.
The ACLU took this to court and won at least a temporary open time to update, so I've been scrambling to get everything together and hopefully be updated!

edit to add: of course this hateful, bigoted admin has now posted that all passports updated during this period will be rescinded if the temp injunction is not made permanent.

I'm in Portland Oregon right now, watching a Portland Timbers soccer game against Minnesota and there is a trans flag displayed in the stadium!
This place is amazing 💥🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Edit to add: and a rainbow flag as well 😃!

Amazing number of people at this year's Trans Pride march in London
More than 100,000 turned out. The event’s theme was “existence and resistance” in response to the UK supreme court ruling in April that said the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex.

I wish I could attend these events but I'm not good at dealing with crowds/noise so I find other ways to support.
