Let's not forget there's good news in the colorful, diverse, awesome, queer world

Here's some good news: trans people are going to continue to be trans people, no matter how many times fascist politicians try to distract from their own corruption by promoting hate of scapegoats.
Thanks for this coati. With the every day avalanche of bad news out of DC it can be really hard to stay focused on this reality.
Even if my hormones and gender affirming med care is cut off, I'll still be me, an out and proud transgender folk 🏳️‍⚧️

This senator is a bright beautiful light in a horrible situation.
I'm thankful for people like him.

He sure is a bright light.

I was so disappointed last Friday when Iowa, the state that was among the first to protect trans people in its civil rights act, became the first state to formally strip those protections away.

Many of us in southern Arizona have for years appreciated the work of musician Namoli Brennet, who moved to Iowa from Tucson to enjoy its briefly-held protections of trans rights. After hearing what just happened in Iowa, I visited Namoli's website this weekend to get caught up on her blog. Her last two entries are very moving, but also disturbing. I take them as a call to action.

I'm not wrong, am I, to notice that Ladybird's father is at this meeting...?

He is either the legislator sitting next to Zooey or one heck of a doppelganger!
Zooey and her partner Erin are both awesome folks. They continue to do amazing work in this country specially for people on the spectrum.
I'll never stop being thankful for both of them 🏳️‍⚧️ 🏳️‍🌈

As a rural queer, I love the idea of queer inclusive rural communities! Although farming isn't gonna be the community where I live...most likely

The irony of these types of communities is, generations of poltical and religious propoganda aside, these communities are very loving and fiercely protective of one another.
In some ways I admit, Id rather be here than a big city where no one cares about anyone.

I love living in an area where people wave to each other as we pass on the road even if we dont know them personally.
And we dont have to agree on everything for us to leave eachother alone to live our lives.

Just my two cents growing up as a country girl.

Is the UK as restrictive about transgender folk serving in their military as the US is becoming?
It didn't used to be, but goalposts change every day don't they? The only trans folk I've heard of transitioned after they were recruited, so the military had already invested in their training, but the law is towards inclusion. The military is still pretty sexist though - a female friend considered joining the navy but found the atmosphere toxic. I think you need to grow a thick skin in any military environment.
