Tesla Robotaxis

Maybe. Less and less people actually want to own one, it seems.
I have seen an increase in the bumper stickers on them saying things like, “Eco friendly not Elon friendly.” Kinda confused why they don’t sell the car if they are *bumper sticker vocal.*

Without a human driver, the passenger must supply his own shouting at other drivers. Maybe there's an app for that.

If nobody is driving, is it even a test drive?

May as well just book a taxi ride.

Robot taxis
Robot waiters
Robot lovers
Robot lawnmowers
Zzzz; its just progress, puss.

Unless this is a thread about Robot Politicians, what’s it doing here?

All those Texans will be riding around in the back of electric robotaxis, waving their guns and making 'vroom' noises.

Will you sign up for a test drive near you?

Was this a publicity stunt? Do you think it will stick?
Remains to be seen if Tesla's robotaxi service has any staying power. Tesla's self-driving tech has a poorer safety record than Waymo's. But self-driving vehicles are likely here to stay. In terms of driverless miles delivered, Waymo is on an exponential curve.

Look for pilotless passenger drones next.

Of course it will; robotaxis are here to stay.

There isn't a media outlet in the world that can make driverless cars look worse than the drunken, manic, unlicensed, shaving-in-one-hand-driving-in-the-other, makeup-applying, cell-phone-watching human drivers who kill scores of people every day because they can't handle a steering wheel. Simple math.

The biggest concern of self-driving vehicles is what they'll do with your personal data.

Here's my thread on them, from 2012: https://forum.literotica.com/threads/what-do-you-want-your-self-driving-car-to-have.830196/

Tesla Robotaxis are much more dangerous than Waymos. Waymos just add to traffic congestion but Teslas will kill people.

Well, we're getting there . . . by baby steps. I mean, how can a robot dishwasher turn on its masters and rebel?!

I remember in Minority Report -- in this future identification is by retinal scan, so Tom Cruise, on the run, buys black-market eyes. He walks into a store and a computer voice says, "Welcome back, Mr. Fakuda! Would you like to look at another selection of tank tops?"

The prospect of that future scares me worse than anything in 1984.

I love sci-fi. This is the future NOW.

And I'm not ready. AI is still too new. There are many, many other people behind the wheel. Some of them think it's ok to drink and drive. In short, even if the car can get me where I want to go, a human can make judgement calls that a car can't.

So, no. Not anytime soon.

When Power Steering was new, some returned their cars because they thought that the power steering would go crazy and run them off the road.
That can happen when steering loses power. Some cars now have electric steering, so a loose wire could put a car in a ditch.

Especially given Tesla's track record of crashing and burning.

Europeans continue to avoid buying Teslas.

Europeans angry with Musk still aren’t buying his cars as Tesla sales drop for fifth month in a row

Europeans still aren’t buying Teslas with figures out Wednesday showing sales plunged for a fifth month in a row in May, a blow to investors who had hoped anger toward Elon Musk would have faded by now.

Tesla sales fell 28% last month in 30 European countries even as the overall market for electric vehicles expanded sharply, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association. The poor showing comes after Tesla’s billionaire CEO had promised a “major rebound” was coming last month, adding to a recent buying frenzy among investors.

Elon FAFO.

They are fine for limited use but nobody wants to be stranded somewhere far from home looking for a recharging station.
