The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

I will have to make sure I get in early tomorrow for the peach cobbler.

I am alternatively fighting with two romances, neither of which want to be very romantic at the moment. Making some progress on each of them at least. My latest appeared today and is getting good early returns, which is always nice. And my SO, who joined a community band earlier this year after not playing for a few decades, has their first concert tonight.

Oh man, I really needed that doughnut. Thank you.

I finally managed to get out of my normal surroundings yesterday and made so much progress. Plowed though over 3k words on my project, and I'm pretty confident that was the most difficult stretch of the whole work. I finished the scene which is the most critical conflict for both character and plot, I worked out the last threads of how all 3 of my MC's fit together in the narrative, and I established a really strong voice for my 3rd MC, which is the main thing I was worried about in beginning to write her. I feel like I'm in a good place to start hammering this thing out in earnest.

👏👏👏

Good on them. I've been playing in community ensembles for 53 years. It is a rewarding experience.

I'm busier than the one whore in town on nickel night. I'm happy 'cause I'm making money. I'm sad cause I can't get time to write my stuff. Donnie's unhappy because his mommy isn't being as much fun with him as she usually does.

My morning chores were brief. Now I'm inside with my shoes off, and I've even (re)written a little. I'm gonna stay inside with the shoes off for as long as I can, cuz it's hot out there.

Hi, Millie. Yep. Being busy pays the bills.

Weird day around here. Rolled out of bed at 9:30 (after being up until 2), fixed a pot, took my morning meds... and went right back to bed. I never really woke up all the way. Up again at 1:00 pm, surfed a few news sites, and other than pouring myself a cup haven't yet mustered the will to get dressed and venture out into the world. C took my place on the bed and is sleeping hard... so much for vacuuming, or lunch plans.

Weird weather, too. 84° and windy - gusts to 35mph. Mostly sunny, yet we are under a tornado watch. Looking at the radar, the nastiness completely skipped us, but our neighbors to the northeast are being hammered. Outlook is slight chance of pop-up storms tonight, and then nothing for a week. Maybe we'll get that backyard fence up? Who knows...

Not doing much any writing. Not in the mood. I have one story in the hopper ready to upload, but I'm waiting until my Nude Day entry loses its "new" tag. It's doing okay-ish - certainly not setting the world on fire.

I had to spend time with Donnie before he scooted out for school. But, they will take a vacation from the 27th until the 7th of July. I know not why! They do take several weeks off in the summer. Not sure what working parents do during those weeks. We're doing this more for socializing for Donnie with kids his age than for the education part. Not that they aren't doing a good job on that part. We haven't decided what we'll do about schooling. I might homeschool him, send him to public school, or private school. The issue is, I don't want him in a religious-based private school, not in Oklahoma.

Oh, gosh. Good luck with that. A thought - our son went to grad school in Norman, and most of his outside social life was with Native American groups. Are there any early-ed or primary ed associations you can draw from like that?

We finally have rain. But it's still hot.

All the notes I made for a new story are waiting for me to figure out how to write the darn thing. Maybe it will always just be notes. I'm good either way.

I'm not sure. We do have a lot of contact with Native Americans; after all, my dad has some Choctaw blood in him and has a slew of American Indian friends. That's what they call themselves; that's why I used it. But since Dad's great-great-grandmother didn't go on the rolls, he isn't. And Donnie isn't able to because he is not at all Native American. There may or may not be some group he could go to that is in OKC. I don't know.

After the storms overnight, the sun is trying to fight its way through the clouds. We're going to get a streak of 90+ degrees F. over the weekend. It'll be nice in the morning but the afternoons will be spent inside.

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are donuts a brownies on the counter. The peaches are just about ready to pick so I'll be making cobblers once they are ripe.

For now, I'll be over in the corner finishing up the last two scenes of my new story. I spent yesterday editing what I had and added a few bits that needed to be added to make the story better (I hope).

Ahh, CK, thanks for the coffee. I'm looking forward to pairing that cobbler with black coffee.

Much of the time on my current projected was spent writing toward a single image at the climax of the story. I've been struggling with that scene for the last few days. I realized as I was rubbing the sleep out of my eyes at dawn this morning that the problem with the scene is that I'm too focused on that single image. After all the work getting there, I still need to take these last few steps a little more slowly.

Somebody is missing. I won't mention names or IDs.

Post history shows a spanking and time out that should have since expired.

Lost in a coffee shop somewhere?

Thanks Candy, and make sure you get to the peaches before the birds.

I've got eight interviews next week - six as the employer and two as the prospective employee. One of the few good things to come out of lock downs is the huge improvement in video conferencing. I can run the interviews with applicants from across Australia, then have my interview without driving an hour.

Still prefer face to face.

Having a heatwave in London. I'm almost tempted to head in to the air-conditioned office, only I'm told that's not much better. Having a house designed 130 years ago to retain heat, followed by us doing it up to be more heat-efficient, doesn't help - though the hall with original ceramic tiles is beautifully cool underfoot.

We have a fan and aircon unit in the loft, but it's not helping downstairs. I may go out and buy a fan today.

The Tube network has spent 150 years emitting heat and having it absorbed by the clay earth all around. Unfortunately that's now reached its heat capacity, causing more problems.

If it goes on, I'm taking my laptop to the ice rink.

As the heat dome settles down over the area, the sun is out and the day is quickly warming up.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee going and the teapot is ready for use. There are donuts on the counter and some cookies that I dug out of the 'fridge.

Woo hoo! I was able to score some peaches so I'll be working on the peach cobbler today between bouts of furious writing. Is it bad of me to sit and admire my words, imagining that everyone who reads it will just love it?

Hope everyone had a great Juneteenth. Now today is the longest day of the year! The sun reaches it's northern-most point after 8EDT this evening.

Is it bad of me to sit and admire my words, imagining that everyone who reads it will just love it?

If that's bad, then the two of us are living in sin. Wait! Does it count if I'm just deluded?

My Juneteenth was a day full of cooking/baking. But it was a very productive day. I got EVERYTHING done that I needed done for the Farmer's Market this weekend. And as a result, I actually have time to write this afternoon!

So, I'll be over here in the corner, typing away at Chapter 5.... still waiting (very impatiently) for Ch 2-3 to publish.........

I snatched two Raymond Chandler books for 1$ each; first edition of sorts. Is not really a first edition since they were published long after he died, but it is a first edition in Spanish. 1980 publishing. One of the books has some water damage, but the covers are pristine. Spanish Blood, The Pencil, and four other stories. Still looking for The Long Goodbye though.

This was also the same place where I got Sexus for also 1$, and it was in much better condition than these. It has the same age, but aside from the smell, it almost looked like it was fresh from the print. I'll see if the vendor can hook me up with the rest of this trilogy, and The Long Goodbye; he tried to sell me another Chandler book, but I was doing some extra errands, and I just took some time to check the little place out.

Well, I didn't get as much done as I would have hoped...but I still made good progress. Another 2.2k words in the book (pun intended), bringing chapter 5 up to 3.7k. So I'm 1/3 of the way through if I stick to my regular goals.

But, my writing time for the day is over. I will be back at it again on Monday at best.

Zelda needs me to listen to 25 year-old metal, so Metallica is pumping through the speakers.

It's a beautiful sunny morning and a good morning to go to the farmers market. I hope to pick up the last of the blueberry harvest today. The knee is still doing good. I tried to wean off of the Meloxicam but after three days, everything around my knee, but not the knee itself began hurting so I had to start taking it again. Luckily, I haven't suffered any of the side effects ascribed to it.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There is peach cobbler on the counter along with the usual assortment of donuts and danish.

I'll be over in the corner working on the last scene that needs completing. Then I can edit it and prepare it for publishing. Crossing my fingers that it won't be flagged as written by AI like my last story ...

We were supposed to have our annual community yard sale today, but a second Ark just floated down the street. We do need the rain, but this is just silly.
