Was I extreme?

So, I'll return to your topic, sorry for rolling around in the tall weeds like a leisurely cat...
When it comes to the R word or -tard words, I don't offend easily, I'm from an older time when such words were not deemed offensive (I suppose I'm referring to the R word here). I don't understand why a certain word can trigger someone but when I do stumble upon such an occurrence, when brought to my attention, I will always try to respectfully correct the issue. That's just being kind in my book.

My impression of the political boards from what I've seen glancing over, they seem to be a hotbed of emotions from people of all walks, looking for entertainment through confrontation.

My question would be, if I may, what purpose do such labels serve? What does someone calling someone a libtard, deplorable, magat, snowflake etc achieve? Doesn't the use of such demeaning words automatically diminish the quality of the conversation not yet even presented?

Additionally, what are people's reasons for coming to the political boards? Fight, argue, learn, challenge themselves? Political boards seem to attract heated emotions and nothing more.

Yes, I’m new to the political board and fairly new to the forum. Can you answer the question or answer why you don’t like this thread?
Being irreverent towards playgrounders is one of the finest traditions of the politics board, and the general board before it.

Stick around long enough, and you'll be a PBer, too.

How long until I become a PBer and shed the playgrounder title? Do I have to stop practicing Thong Thursday?

The thing I hate most about chats/text/email is that there's really no way to determine tone of written text. Something could be meant completely innocent and depending on the readers current mood, be interpreted a completely different tone than intended.

I suppose in this case, more context would definitely be needed in order to make a more educated opinion.
If this were the only interaction, the single quoted sentence, and no previous communication was made (meaning no prior chat history), I'd say a better approach would have been to explain that you find it offensive and see if proceeding comments were altered to respect your feelings. However, when it's all said and done, you don't HAVE to talk to anyone you prefer not to....
You've landed in the political forum, not Kansas, Dorothy. This is the land of misfit toys who bleat, belch, and spew sarcasm, lies, oaths [swearings, and threats of various kinds. Most are blatant and have no veiled attempt at innocence in their comments or replies.

Educated opinions are skewered here with derision. It's 'us' against 'them' or some variation on those pronouns in 80% of the banter.

If you're still reading, don't take my word for it. Just preview some of the threads and see for yourself.

Oh, I've seen. It's definitely not my cup of tea!

Many come here to help them solidify their thinking on current events. Often it's not until we vocalize our thoughts that they become clear because we have to set out the order of precedence as we state our positions on any one issue.

The concurring or opposing voices give more details and either help set opinions or help modify them so that the position is either supported or abandoned.

It is only a few who come here to cause discord. Much like the violent rioters they aren't there to support the cause, but to burn down whatever they can. And, just like the violent rioters, they hide their identities.

I really hope that is the case. In the times that I do skim over the political boards, it does seem to be a lot of unhappiness and a lot of frustration. But like most things, negative things tend to stick out more than positive so maybe my problem is I'm letting the wrong things stand out to me. Either way, I come here (to lit) more for fun and light-heartedness and the intensity of the political boards is very off putting. I happened to pop on here just because I've messaged with AnomalyLady off and on and was just curious what this post was about. I do very much appreciate your perspective!!
