After 209 pages and 5300+ posts, I think it's time to open up a new thread for more merry music sharing!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And since I'm a fucking attention whore, I'll start with a bit of shameless self-promotion. Here's a new song my lady love and I made for our third (!) album due out this summer. I can't staple more than a few sentences to each other, but music making works kinda fine.

I've been listening to the Lord Huron album "Strange Trails" on repeat while writing/editing my latest. I feel like the vibe of that album crept into the story, which I'm pretty stoked about.

It's a really good vibes album. Which is what I need for writing, because if the lyrics are too prominent, my brain latches onto them and I can't concentrate on writing. Usually that means I do some movie soundtrack, usually Hans Zimmer and usually Interstellar if I'm being honest, but it's nice to have found something with lyrics I can write to as well.

I've been getting obsessed with Rilo Kiley, now that they're touring again. I was too young to appreciate them when they were originally active, but I think they're even better now with some years under their belt, and Jenny Lewis is just a goddess  Pictures of Success makes me tear up every time I hear it!

@PennyThompson You're absolutely right! Haven't heard her stuff before but this song got me at least interested to find out more. If I had to put labels on my musical tastes, I'd identify as a metalhead first, but with a ton of asterisks. When I was a child, my dad listened to Elvis, the Beatles and a lot of Classical stuff - but also a lot of late '70s prog and electronica. Mom was a top-40 girl who loved hoarding mixtapes, so I had all the '80s chart toppers in my head growing up. My school friends fixed me on to goth and New Wave stuff and when I went to boarding school for the blind, it didn't take long for me to butt heads with the metal crowd. My dorm room mate was a hip-hop head and my first long-term girlfriend HATED rock music with a passion - but we bonded over Irish Folk and movie soundtracks. I later played in a punk band (drums) and a metal band (bass) where I met my lady love and with her I'm making a weird mix of '70's/'80s synth music which goes from very poppy (like the one posted earlier) to pretty weird (some of our album tracks -> Bandcamp).

Modern music, so basically anything since the early 2000's, is very hit or miss for me. Of course there's the whole Synthwave subgenre (Dance With The Dead, Scandroid, Gunship, Birthday Massacre etc.) and many cool metal bands, but pop songs? Veeeeeery few. "Blinding Lights" by the Weeknd and "Midnight Sky" by Miley Cyrus work for me. The John Wick soundtrack had me check out Kaleida but that's pretty much it.

So... thanks for your recommendation!

A Neil Young tribute album, the first of what I expect will be several. This is a playlist of all 14 tracks:

Posted this in 7.0 and then realised that there's a new thread - moving it here...

I listened obsessively to a lot of music from contemporary choral to prog rock for my Nude Day story, which is music focused. For an extended bedroom scene (where some Pink Floyd also makes an appearance over the protests of my beta readers / intimacy advisors), I went with "Forth of Firth" by Genesis amongst others, primarily for the bass drop / eargasm during the guitar solo after the 6:45 mark, repeated 50 seconds later. I love this drum cover of it by Sina as well. Original drums by Phil Collins. Keyboards and main composer Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel on flute / vocals, Steve Hackett as guitar god, and Mike Rutherford on bass / bass pedals (the eargasm bit) and guitar.

Am old school. Listening to the radio today and heard some old disco vibes. A lot of them on the soundtrack for the movie "The Martian". I am pulling out the blu-ray and watching the movie tonight

I made a playlist for a character in one of my stories in development. She made a mashup of lyrics to create her own work. I thought it was pretty cool. I haven't listened to the playlist for a couple years:

Unsourced:
I could offer you a warm embrace
Even when you’re crying, you’re beautiful too
Wherever I go, you bring me home
To make you feel my love

All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me, I’ll give my all to you
God I want you so badly
Fear is the heart of love

Nothin' feels better than this
I will fight for you if you fight for me too
I was the endless sky
And you were my Mexican dove

You make me feel so brand new
And I want to spend my life with you
The getting and the getting of
All is love

You’re a dream lover
And I’m never gonna let you go
And there’s no other
Could look as good as you right now

Love hurts sometimes
But this feels right
A long, lonely time
I’ve hungered for your touch

She can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend
If he put her down
You were meant for me and I was meant for you

I'm five years late to the party on this one:

Kind of "We Didn't Start The Fire" specifically for the year 2020. Made me chuckle. In German but the chorus is easy to interpret.
