Your favorite πŸ€“ Nerd Alert πŸ€“

Tonight at trivia, one of the questions was comic book characters of Marvel and DC and their alter egos. I was happy to get four out of five!

Thinking of that, there are some super heroes whose alter ego is so disparate from their β€œreal life” personality. Sometimes the mask allows them to be someone different and taking off the glasses makes them more confident.

I’m not gonna tie this topic to Marvel or DC or even comic books.

My favorite: The Hulk

Maybe the mask is what they put on to try to be "normal" and fit in, not what they put on to be the hero.

Also, I will admit I probably don't know what I'm talking about. But, Superman was always Superman trying to fit in.

My favourite alter-ego storyline came up in Batman Beyond. Batman is not Bruce Wayne in a costume, Bruce Wayne is Batman in a costume.

Great minds!

Who’s your favorite X-Men character?!
I have been an unabashed Wolverine fanboy since 1982. I had more or less stopped reading comics for a while during the Edgy 90s, when he was everywhere, doing everything (and everyone), but I see where Wolverine Fatigue set in. But his whole story in the God Loves, Man Kills graphic novel was fantastic, and will always be a favorite.

Though not an X-Man, I am also a huge fan of Mockingbird, which is not a phrase you read often. Loved her since the Hawkeye limited series (I am also a fan of his), back in the early 80s, after which I went back and found her earlier stuff, followed by The West Coast Avengers. Smart, sneaky, and just good at what she did. And I loved the idea of a married couple of superheros. I adored the version on Agents of SHIELD as well -- Adrianne Palicki was perfectly cast. But as much as I also adored Hunter, I wish they would have had a throw away line about her dating Barton or something.

Growing up it would have been Storm. Hands down.
I will admit I still hold a grudge against Black Panther, in every medium, because he dumped Storm over what Namor did. (And I hated them retconning how they met, changing Storm into a damsel in distress who has to be saved by the Panther, rather than her saving him from a bunch of racists who were trying to kill him before he got his powers.)
With some more recent movie - Colossus
I'll be honest im not sure how he is portrayed in the comics. But the constantly annoyed "Dad" vibes. I love it.
I love ComicsColossus. My favorite obscure, sexy bit is when Kitty and he finally slept together for the first time, she lost control and phased through multiple floors of the X-Mansion when she came.

My obvious answer for favorite movie would be Ghostbusters.
I'm sure everyone can tell without even talking to me once. :p

As for games, I always enjoyed Monopoly as a kid.
Still have like 4 versions of it in my closet.
Also played a lot of Battletech as a kid too, although I'm not sure we played with the full rules.
My cousin, who introduced it to me, usually hosted the game.
Still, it has awesome minifigs. :D
Also like chess, although I'm not good, lol.

My kids and I have a family game/movie night at least once a week. Tonight’s combo was Keepy Uppy and IF.

What would your picks be?
First of all, I love that you do this. Our family does too, although not nearly so often as once a week. We have a family D&D game that we play (with a couple of non-family friends too). But for non-D&D game night one of our favorites is Betrayal at House on the Hill.

And for a family movie that we all agree on... there aren't many. But of the few, Little Shop of Horrors might be the top of the list:

I love that it’s themed! And this looks like something I could do with my youngin’s maybe!
We’ve literally never played the advanced rules in my house. The basic rules are pretty straightforward and might be close for the young ones…I think my son was…8 when we first played. And probably like 15 before we played again with him because he was a terrible loser 🀣

My favorite movie pick is The Princess Bride (thankfully loved by them)

My daughter and I have always had movie nights with movies her mother doesn't appreciate, ever since she wandered down from a nap and crawled into my lap to watch Tremors as a little one. When she was older and could understand them more, I was mindful of what we watched, hitting classics like The Good the Bad and The Ugly, The Great Escape, and the like along with Labyrinth, Legend, all of the Star Wars movies (except the prequels, because I am a good dad). And we would have discussions on themes and tropes and what we liked and didn't. ( For example, Legend has a deep understanding of the feel of fairy tales, and is beautifully shot, but as a complete film it is lacking. Yes, I made her analyze what we were watching. Maybe not so much a good dad...)

But she had never seen the TV version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While I am an unabashed Buffy fan, she was never interested, said it looked boring, and teased me about it. Finally, one Monday when she was 16, I said "we are going to watch 'Welcome to the Hellmouth', (The pilot), and if you don't like it, I won't ask you again." So, grumbling, she watched. Last year, after four years of Monday's being "Buffy Night, we completed watching all seven seasons of Buffy and five of Angel, switching back and forth when that show spun off. And it gave me a great in road to talk to my daughter about all of the crap in life that Buffy fights as metaphors, and the pains of growing and becoming something else, and even parameters in dating (as much as I dislike Season 6, the Buffy/Spike arc, leading up to "Seeing Red," gave me a way to talk about a relationship that was toxic as it has no parameters or even the concept of consent from either partner and the ending horrorshow (which had each partner trying to sexually assault the other in different episodes) was a natural outcome. Conversations about consent, and red flags, and fear.) It was all very important to the both of us.

Monday is still Buffy Night, but we have moved on to several others, and are currently in Season 3 of Agents of SHIELD. We have built up an ongoing, weekly set time when we eat together, catch up on life, and binge-watch stuff for four or five hours.

We also watch movies often. I asked her her favorite that I had introduced her to: Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

Imma do another because I’ve been thinking about my current favorite game.

Movie: Game Night

Nice casual watch to pair with a super casual party game that literally anyone can play and has been so much fun every time I’ve pulled it out.

Seriously this game is so simple and so much fun. I recommend it to almost everyone.

I forgot about that movie!!

I loved board games. I'd love to play Scrabble, but my children refuse to play that with me. So, we'd play Parcheesi, Balderdash, Sequence, etc.

They also loved movies from the 80s, so we'd watch a lot of things like Ferris Bueler, The Princess Bride, and throw in things like John Wick and Speed.
