Today I saw two things I never expected to see in my lifetime:
"The notion that Israel has a government that is no longer behaving as an American ally, and should not be considered as such, is a shocking and bitter pill for Israel’s friends in Washington to swallow — but swallow it they must."
President Trump travels to the Middle East next week, meeting with Middle Eastern leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. He is not making the traditional "stop over" in Israel, a rarity for an American leader.
Over the past month, Americans have opened negotiations with three of Israel's "enemies", the Houthis in Yemen, the Iranians and Hamas. The United States has not included Israel in these discussions, nor updated Israel after the fact.
Both the Americans and the Saudis recognize now that Israel has no interest in a two-state solution any longer. Since the Israelis have completely reneged publicly and privately on their commitment to a two-state solution, the United States made a MAJOR change in foreign policy towards Israel and Saudi Arabia yesterday that was buried in the news by the new Pope story:

Israel

We. Told. Them. So.

- Three time Pulitzer Prize editorial winner Thomas J. Friedman actually praising Donald Trump's foreign policy in the Middle East
- The New York Times editorial page delivering a scalding critique of the current Israeli government.

The United States will no longer require the normalization of foreign relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel as the primary condition of assisting Saudi Arabia develop a nuclear energy program.
Basically, the United States told the world that it drop any and all opposition to anyone selling their expertise in developing nuclear powered energy technology in Saudi Arabia. Israel's Gazan tantrum is having major repercussions: the next generation of Israelis will be forced to deal with the very real possibility of having their Saudi neighbors possessing an arsenal of nuclear weapons.
.....and Israel has no one to blame but themselves for this self-inflicted wound. Specifically, Benjamin Netanyahu and Bezalel Smotrich.
Donald Trump has now disavowed his kinship with two of his fellow autocratic authoritarian kin in the past month....Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu. They both played him for a sucker in his first term. This time, on the surface anyway, things seem much much different.
As I'm fond of saying...."Actions have consequences"
Israel's blithe admission it will resume its warmongering campaign soon is now destabilizing governments in both Jordan and Egypt, and Friedman goes so far as to call Israel "Vietnam on the Mediterranean"
