Long Stories

I've personally posted single stories up to about 75,000 words. The longest single postings I'm aware of are around 250,000 words. Not sure if there might be longer ones, but no one has ever stated there's a maximum.

Does anyone know if there's a maximum length for stories here?
Longest I've seen was around 80 Lit pages, about 300,000 words. On that basis, no upper limit. If there was, the site would tell you, and you could split it in two.

I have several stories posted here over 100K words. My longest is 81 Lit pages.

OK, that's good to know. Another site where I write occasionally has an upper limit of 10,000 words, and the story I'm working on at the moment is 10,167, according to Word.

How do we italicize in a story? I see the italics icon here, but how do we do it when submitting a story?

You can either use a program like Word or OpenOffice, which allows you to format it within the document, and then submit it as a .doc, .docx, or .rtf file, where formatting is retained during the conversion process. Or if you're typing directly into the site's submission box, you can use simple HTML code:

Code:
<i>This line will print in italics!</i>

will produce an output in your story which looks like:

This line will print in italics!

Hope that helps. :)

So if I submit the Word file and it's italicized in the Word file, it will show up in italics on the site?

It should. I know some people have had issues with formatting not always showing up properly, but I've done it for everything except my poetry, and never had an issue. I use LibreOffice and submit in .rtf format. :)
