Comments that leave you shaking your head

Unless someone posts a real name and address (which no one does) we are all anonymous here. Furthermore there is no way of telling an 'alt' account from a 'main'. In fact many people have multi accts and do no designate one as main. So posting anonymously is not cowardly at all.

You want a name on a comment so that you can prove some authenticity but really it proves nothing. Anyone can start an account and comment under that name and it is no more nor less anonymous than your own 'main' account. No stories on that account? That also proves nothing. The vast majority of readers here (ie: our legit audience) only read and do not write. So posting anonymously achieves the same thing as starting a commenting account or even a main reading account.

Are there cowardly commenters out there? No one can ever prove it, so it's pointless to care.

Like I said, there is only one real reason why people get upset at anonymous comments. They need to find a reason to discredit criticism so that they can pretend to be "awesome". People here (and I can name names) will often say, "well if he criticizes, I want to be able to see his writing to see if he knows what he's talking about," but notice that not one single person has ever said on this forum, "someone gave me anonymous glowing praise and I wish I could see their work so I can check if he knows what he's talking about.". Praise is never questioned. ; )
Thanks for the reply. I agree that a name proves nothing. I believe though that many people put great store in their reputation, even under a pseudonym, and a criticism made with the weight of a pseudonym with a reputation is very different from an anonymous criticism, or from a name with a poor reputation (examples deleted) - even if those different names were associated with the same actual person. I think it's quite okay to weigh comments received under the gravity associated with the name. That doesn't mean that I automatically dismiss anonymous comments, but they tend to matter less unless they've got something particularly interesting to say (including for positive comments).

Alistaire inspired me to do some reading up on vaginal depths during one of the episodes (I can't remember which) - there are lots of get out of jail articles that include phrases like 'oh but they can stretch much further in the right circumstances'. I think it would be kind of nice if later in life (when he gets bored of commerce), Alistaire becomes part of some medical research around how certain men can inspire new depths of depravity.

More disturbing is that there's only one episode to go....
“New DEPTHS of depravity”?

I received a feedback today that called me a sick dyke cocksucker.

My first thought was if I were a lesbian, I wouldn't be a cocksucker.

Can these people be consistent with their abuse?
In Holland a Dyke is something that keeps water out, so who knows what he or she was thinking. Maybe this person thought that if you were lesbian now and then you needed your pussy filled.

The perils of changing lanes…

Anon wrote, on the sequel to a group sex story:

You are a terrific writer. I think that should be universally acknowledged. I don't like casual sex, especially group sex. It loses it's meaning and value, so I didn't like these two chapters after navigating from another of your stories.

I appreciate the compliment and their honesty, I really do. I appreciate that they’ve followed me into a category that they’re less comfortable with. (I can’t help noting that they’ve left the comment on the sequel, so they didn’t choose the off-ramp after the first instalment!). Both stories were filed under group sex. Other than only writing for one category, I don’t know what I could have done differently.

The comment that I need to use the word cunt in my audios is still happening by one litster...

I finally left them a message

From my story Maya’s Bistro

“Great story! I hope you win!”

Uh, this was published for the On the Job event and there is no winner. Still, nice feedback from Anonymous.

You're clearly winning at Life, like the nicest and longest-lived turtles of our acquaintance.

A challenger appears.

Why is it you (author) just refuse to have your characters end in a permanent arrangement, like marriage????

Very disappointing endings in all your romance novels.

In some ways it does. I tend to give a known author more credence when he/she offers a comment. I know their work as well. I also have one anyonymous who knows my long, current, story backwards and forward and I can tell from his comments who he is.

Between this comment and the inexplicable popularity of LW, there seems to be a significant portion of Literotica's readership that is heavily invested in the institution of marriage. Something about two characters being bound by this legal arrangement seems to be the end all be all of things and I'm perplexed as to why.

Lack of imagination and shamanistic thinking?

Closure. The sense of fulfilment from reading what essentially boils down to "And they lived happily ever after."

I’ve had some very thoughtful and supportive comments on “After Her Workmate’s Funeral”, which I appreciate. This one from Anonymous also made me chuckle though with its lack of capitalisation and “often damages here”!

“well written, which is a bit unusual on these pages (I don't mean to sound obsessive). a good story is often damages here with typos, poor or incorrect word choice, bad grammar, etc.

nicely developed with tangibly felt emotion. you're a very good writer!”

One wonders if damages vs damaged and nicely vs Nicely. Is an illustration by example of just showing how easily an author can make such mistakes without a proof reader!

My story which has been up for weeks with minimal engagement just got 17 anonymous comments in two days. This one got me:

“…could have been shortened a bit or just described with a short summary for a faster pace. Because at the end of the day, it's a smut story, not a fantasy novel. It would suck to see this story unfinished because the author got burned out writing it.”

It’s in the sci-fi and fantasy section, you can see it has lots of chapters and I even started tagging the later ones “porn with plot”. I’m closer to burnout having read this comment than I am from writing the thing…

Still new to Literotica, is there a reason for sudden deluges of comments?

I find they come in waves. Several of my older stories have been getting attention lately, which is kind of nice. It's encouraged me to go back and read them again. Who knows, maybe I'll even leave myself an anonymous comment. :).

:ROFLMAO:

Still new to Literotica, is there a reason for sudden deluges of comments?

It's very unusual for a story that has been up for two weeks to get 17 comments in such a short span, especially in a category like Sci-Fi & Fantasy that doesn't have a huge readership. It piqued my curiosity, so I checked out the comments.

It looks like most chapters of your series picked up three anonymous comments on the same day. The comments all share a similar style and tone. Some even touch on identical points (one says, "the dream sequence was a bit long," and the very next comment says, "the dream sequence was a little slow").

It's possible that different people posted each comment, but my best guess is that you picked up a very devoted fan who desperately wants you to keep writing (hence, the "it would suck to see the story unfinished" comment). He or she left a series of anonymous comments to encourage you, mostly calling out all the things they liked about each chapter.

So congrats! Your story really seems to have resonated with the person/people who made those comments!

I have no proof, but it seems stories with more engagement get more moderator attention and possibly an algorithm brought the pile up to a moderator's attention.

I note ThatNewGuy's comments and as I seem to attract few comments (17 would be in my top three as most are below 10 and many are 1 or none) possibly I am not the best guide.
However... SciFi/Fantasy has a more nieche readership and my Do Androids Dream of Electric Love? series has engement numbers between 750 and 1,500 whereas my other stories range from 1,000 to 28,000, with 10k being typical.
As others have said, any comment is a good comment as you have engaged the reader enough for them to spend their time putting finger to keyboard, even if it is just to give you the finger ;).
YMMV!
