Tariffs announced on Canada, China, & Mexico goods

Well, I guess that's the tourist industry dead and gone. A lot of tourists come here for lengthy trips to tour around - like Canadians in their RV's. Kiss that one goodbye. With threats like that, ain't no-one going to be coming here.

China's not initiating any dialog on the Trade War..... China has said US goods will no longer be commercially viable in China. US is out of business in China.

China's response to Trump is polite, nuanced, with a diplomatic tone, showing no sign of emotional outbursts. A poised and confident response projecting strength and determination as well as a firm grasp of reality. They have very good translators. By contrast, Trump talks street talk, lies cleverly, repeats falsehoods, and is crass, rude, and undiplomatic. He's lost every ally and friend America had. I would have thought that was impossible, but he's managed it in 3 months. Amazing. Probably bankrupted Tesla too, bevause between him and Musk, Tesla is done in China and the EU, as well as Canada, and the Tesla market here was green lefties and he ain't got no friends there.

lol, so you want to pay the increased cost of in country manufactured American products instead of ones made by cheap labour....cool......just in case you wanted to know, China's wage is about $3.60 an hour, while the US average is $21.40.

Given that fact, Trump either wants a huge rise in prices of cheap consumer products, or he wants to lower the average wage US workers make. Which one do you think he's going for?

Now, the head felon in charge of batshittery, has removed tariffs on chips, computers, and phones. 🙄

We all make mistakes. For instance, I accidently opened a recipe app instead of reddit (silly me!). Trump crashed the economy, is incarcerating thousands of innocent people, is shipping others off to their doom, and trying to rule the world and this country with a diseased mix of stupidity and authoritarianism.

Are we really that different?

how is it that so many fuckwits seem to think the US economy still works in isolation???? this is a world economy, bitches. If we don't have markets for our exports it will HURT US. Can you not realize that? You seem to realize it when you talk about boycotting companies that don't agree with Trump. But you can't extend that to realize that pissing off consumers overseas will create the same effect?

And when the CEO of JP Morgan, who is far more aware of the effects things have on markets than a halfwit real estate cheat who would have more money right now if he had put his inheritance in a mutual fund, TELLS YOU that your tariffs are going to fuck up the market, the orange idiot and his followers fucking ignore it. Do you realize that saying so out loud probably cost JP Morgan millions? Because they could sell things before they make such an announcement that will bring prices down? can you idiots not learn from experience? these tariffs are pushing us directly towards recession. the only positive I see from this is that perhaps the resulting recession will push enough MAGA idiots out that Trump won't have a rubber stamp to use in Congress.

there's an old line. "Perfectly acceptable to criticize someone in private... but when you do it in public, people tend to think you are SERIOUS." * one of the most powerful financial companies in the world just warned you what will happen, Donald. PLEASE, for the sake of the country, believe that they are serious!

* when I say old, I mean it. the quote is usually attributed to Benjamin Franklin. This isn't new knowledge.

rotflmao. Really. Now wait for the shoe to drop. Pharmaceuticals. Aircraft parts....the list of critical exemptions will keep on growing as it becomes obvious what the damage will be economically.

Xi is laughing. And I bet China doesn't change their tariffs at all. Makes me proud to be half-Chinese. LOL

Someone should ask the Clown-in-Chief who holds the cards.

Here's an example of why stupid ass MAGATs think these retarded tariffs are working.

1000026620.jpg

He should have done it like this to show His work. That's how all the going little MAGA boys are taught in 4th grade.

100 - 10% = 90

100 x .1= 10

100 - 10 = 90

90 + 10% = 99

90 x .1= 9

90 + 9 = 99

All it took was for China to up the ante on tariffs and Trump went begging for a deal. Surrendered before any tariffs were actually collected because those Doge-bois couldn't actually get the computers to do it.

He spent a couple of hours listening to people embarrass themselves by 'thanking him for his leadership', then surrendered.

If you'd listen to him he'd tell you exactly what he's doing but you communists camt do that! You have to rely on your beloved communist media to tell you what he didn't say! You sheep are PATHETIC!

There's nothing wrong with onshoring manufacturing back into the USA, but Trump's approach is without any plan or rationale. He's applying tariff's as a sledgehammer to everyone, with no forethought or preparation as to how we bring that manufacturing back on shore and just what we want and what we don't need. He's pissed everyone off, he's slapped tariffs on with no thought as to what will be onshored and how long it will take, and he seems to think manufacturers will be paying the tariffs and absorbing the increases. Just delusional.

For something like pharmaceuticals, it can take years to onshore. We didn't manage during covid. What makes anyone think we can do it quickly now. Apply that across the board. Same with Canada - a lot of work and planning and negotiations have gone into auto industry manufacturing and the setup we have. Likewise with aluminium for example. Canada supplies the raw material, we process it and ship back finished products. Trmp's taken a sledgehammer to that ithout understanding the ramifications and impacts.

On top of that, he's destroyed alliances built up over 80 years. We no longer have allies. Rubio and the others can try and weasel out of that, but everyone knows Trump is the boss and they listen to him. Rubio and the defense industry KNOW Trump has killed he hope of anymore large-scale sales to Europe, and Rubio is making noises about not cutting the USA out of EU defense bidding, but everyone knows that after what Trump has said and done, that's just wishful thinking. Look at Patriots - Ukraine is working to build an analog because USA is not selling them any - once they have it working, who do you think Europe is going to buy from. It won't the the good 'ol USA, that's for sure.

Now step back and look at China - not going to budge and we CANNOT onshore all the critical stuff China makes overnight. Trump has prematurely ejaculated on this one. He got over-excited, but then, he's not into foreplay. He grabs 'em by the pussy. Only in this case, China is going to knee him in the balls and put a stiletto thru his foot. 15% of China's exports go to the USA. That's all. They will absorb the pain and make Trump eat dirt. In the politest possible way, meanwhile drawing Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada and the EU into a closer relationship. They may well sacrifice Russia to do this - the collapse of Russia would fuck Trump over and give China Siberia - not a bad deal when you think about it from China's perspective. If I was Xi, I'd be willing to engineer the breakup of the Russian Federation and a Ukrainian victory in order to establish a hegemony over Siberia to the Urals. That's be a real win, resource wise, for China.

Tourism represents 2.9 Trillion per year to the US Economy.

  • Canadians returning from visits to the US by land plunged 31.9% year-over-year in March, while air arrivals fell 13.5%.
  • Overseas visitor arrivals to the US in March contracted 11.6%, with particularly sharp declines from Germany and the UK.
  • Air visitors from Mexico fell 23.0% in March.

Internal tourism will keep going, but that'll drop when we go into a recession and the drop in international visits is really only starting. A lot of plans were already made and bookings in place. It's the new bookings that will disappear that will be the real impact.

Hotels, airlines and rental car companies are all going to take big hits, as well as tourist destinations. As for places like Las Vegas - there's a LOT of international conferences and exhibitions and things going on there and they will all take hits too. Look for safer international venues to take their place. Singapore for example, or Toronto or Vancouver. That's just me wildly guessing, but I guess we will see.

“NOBODY is getting ‘off the hook’ for the unfair Trade Balances, and Non Monetary Tariff Barriers, that other Countries have used against us, especially not China which, by far, treats us the worst!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

“There was no Tariff ‘exception’ announced on Friday. These products are subject to the existing 20% Fentanyl Tariffs, and they are just moving to a different Tariff ‘bucket.’ The Fake News knows this, but refuses to report it,” he continued.

JFC. The exemption of electronics from the 145% tariff on China isn’t an “exception”?

They are “just moving to a different tariff bucket” called the Pretend These Aren’t Made in China Bucket. 😆

Donnie’s hilarious attempts to cover up his stupidity remind me of HisArpy and RightGuide.

White House threatens Colombia over regulations affecting US auto exports

  • The US has a trade surplus with Colombia
  • We signed a free trade agreement with them in 2012
  • Donnie slapped a 10% tariff on them anyway, because he has no clue what “reciprocal” means
  • Colombia plans to change safety certification requirements that could eliminate $700 million of auto exports from the US (as retaliation? Not clear)
The Trump administration is stumbling its way through the mess they created.
