The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Im sorry to read this. I’m on a lot of meds and the only pain meds I can take are hydromorphone and fentanyl. Toradol, a strong nsaid, anlso can help. After surgery I had tons of hydromorphone, like 2 pills every 4 hrs for weeks. As the pain lessened, I gradually tapered down and stopped without trying to.
I only have had fentanyl in medical settings. It’s also the only time I’m not in any pain, so I totally get its appeal psychologically but I can’t stand on fentanyl.bits also physically addictive esp if you’ve had previous addictions to alcohol, cigarettes or other meds.
I totally get her worry. Is there a medical facility where she can go and get fentanyl rather than take at home.
If you’ve got fentanyl at home, it would be good to have narcan handy just in case.
For myself, the pain seems to eat the meds and I can get by with less if I take then when the pain starts to rise.
Fentanyl was designed for unrelenting intractable pain, and in the case of a dying friend, we didn’t care if she became addicted, and she didn’t, but if she had she was in no position to do much with it.

At this point, I take Celebrex and low dose naltrexone ( ldn) LDN blocks the opiate receptors several hours a day and had pretty much gotten rid of my bone pain. On ldn I can’t take opiates as they won’t work so if I need them, I have to go off ldn.
You might investigate ldn. I can send links to studies if that helps.
I hope she feels better soon,
Lots of good information here for RJ, Noor. I'm so sorry you're in chronic pain. 🫂🫂

Good morning or evening according to your time zone. I am just sitting having breakfast with my mum. Then it’s an eight hour drive to N Devon to see my grandchildren for a few days. I will pop by the Bar when I can but they are my priority when I get there.

Take care everyone!
Enjoy your grands, G! Nothing better than those little arms around your neck! 🥰🥰

Good morning all. I log in a little later than normal to find I've missed all the fun!

My attendance will be sporadic over the next week as I am returning to the UK for Mum's funeral. Play nicely and see you on the other side. I will endeavour to pop in when I can with the occasional 'bon mot' here and there.

I'm very sorry, B2. It's so much harder for families to watch their loved ones suffer. 🫂🫂

And, what are you doing up so early on a Sunday morning? Did you bring the feathers? 🪶🪶
Thanks. I did bring feathers. 🪶 And I am up because my old dog has a timer on his bladder. When the timer goes off, I have to let him out. Then he wants food too! So on goes the coffee pot as I can’t get back to sleep.

Have a safe trip, and again our condolences 🙏 🌹

More about sepsis: most of the Hospitals in my area have joined to share their experiences and plans to prevent sepsis during patient procedures and hospital stays. It’s been working. More need to do this. Preventing disease and illnesses should be our collective priority.

My friend has a pic line and both times were touch and go. No hospital would accept her either times because she a rare disease patient and we literally had to force them to. The first time we had to call in the state. I said good bye to her both times, but we persevered and she survived.
Never underestimate the power of firm persistence!

I also forced strongly encouraged the MD to transfer my SIL to the ICU. I could hear the nurses making fun of me when I accompanied her there at about midnight. About 0500, my BIL called to let me know she had decompensated and was placed on a ventilator.

I was there every day requesting orders in line with best practices. I worked as a specialist nurse in a Trauma center; I was also a professor teaching critical care Nursing. My SIL was in a community hospital. Not a bad place, just not as up to date on the literature as I was used to practicing.
