You won’t like this….just sayin’

My future prediction….

In the coming one to three weeks, most of the countries on that tariff list will want to have a meeting. My guess is that some kind of deal will be worked out. They can’t take the pain and the US consumer can’t take the pain. A deal of some sort will be made.

Has anyone heard of the term “Kayfabe”? I think it fits very well with what’s going on now

Tell me some details of why this is wrong. I’d honestly like to hear. I’m open to other opinions. Tell me the other side
It's really simple. The US imposes tariff's, we impose counter tariffs. This drives up the cost of products internally in each country through import taxation. Eventually one country will acquiesce. This is the theory of how tariffs are supposed to work.

That is the basis of your argument.

The trouble with this is: The USA is not going against just one country or even a couple, but 191 others and a few deserted islands.
The defence against this by the 191 countries is expand trade with each other, and leave the US to sink into an internal depression.

If you read up on the 1930's depression, you'll notice a lot of similarities. It started with a market crash ( seen the stocks today?) and countries soon turned to protectionist tactics of tariffs and limited the economy to internal trade. ( this time around they will not make that mistake)

Trump's tariffs are not about unfair trade, but to instead bully the world back to a place in time where the US was the #1 manufacturer and driver of the economic bus. It's possible that this can occur, but it will take a decade, and will require the death of the middle class in the US.

Trump has no intention of negotiating to lower his tariffs. He’s a protectionist! Lowering tariffs would be the opposite of protectionism.

Trump is a creampuff. He’ll cave, but too late to save the U.S. economy.

What you conveniently leave out is the fact that all of the nations you name, especially Japan, have had aggressive protectionist trade policies against America for decades.
Refusing to continue to be exploited by Mexico and Canada isn't "being a bully" however much thinking that coddles your immature feelings. Leveling the playing field is common sense.
Moving jobs and industries back to America isn't "protectionism", it's common sense.

"Trust is everything"? What are you, nine years old?
If you trust ANY politician, you are so retarded you should never be allowed near a voting booth.
At best, a politician is the lesser of the evils.
The only thing you can trust is human nature, and human nature is self interest.
You voted for Trump. Your opinion is worthless.

It's fun to see folks still believing that slapping tariffs on foreign goods is somehow going to hurt the other countries and their businesses, that Americans will find alternatives to those goods and live merrily ever after. What goods are we exactly talking about here? Eggs? Wood? Steel? Electronics? Cars? Planes?
What about the components used in products like electronics and cars? How are you going to tariff that? Has anyone thought about the well balanced juggling act that goes on between manufacturing and supply chain?

To all those getting ecstatic about tariffs, here's a real scenario for you:
  1. A car uses 75% components that are manufactured in the US. The remaining come from Japan. It gets built in Canada. Now you slap a 25% tariff on it when imported to the US. Americans can't afford it and sales plummet. Who does it hurt?
  2. A car has 80% of the components coming from Germany. Only about 5% of the parts it uses are built in the USA. However the final build happens in the USA. No tariffs. Who gets hurt?
Case #2 requires the construction of new facilities, and the investment of Billions, with an amortisation period of decades more. Not going to happen. The auto industry will sit back and wait. In today's economy, what Trump is trying to do has only two outcomes. Trump fails and quits, or the world economy collapses and some other country, perhaps China has the wherewithal to pick up the pieces in 20 or 30 years.

He didn’t include Canada or Mexico on the list of countries getting tariffs. I think that’s because a deal is already being worked out with them. They came to the table first

There's no deals between Canada and Mexico. Trump allowed the tariffs he had already implemented to take affect. Canada retaliated, and Mexico is deciding their course of action.

You guys just started WTW#1 and you better figure that out soon.

Refusing to continue to be exploited by Mexico and Canada
Where exactly has either country "exploited" the US. Are you aware of this little tidbit; The US and Canada have an agreement where the US buys Canadian oil at a 10% discount off the market price? That's such a good deal for the US that 60% of all your domestic fuel is made from Canadian crude. To a low rent brain like yours, that's a 10% savings at the pump. One that Trump just removed with his 10% tariff on it.

This is just one of a hundred thousand ways trade has been interwoven between the two countries for the benefit of both. Trump just destroyed that.

Think about that for one moment.

Neither are at the table. I'm not sure where you get your sources of facts, but I suggest you find new ones....

Imported crude gets refined in America, then resold by exporting it.
true and when the price of crude rises?
We are not going to need imported oil to produce energy any more, US uranium works just fine in fast reactors and electric cars are getting more efficient every year.
lol
There has never been a level playing field overall between the USA and canada or mexico in terms of trade.
no there hasn't, which is why we keep changing the trade rules through negotiations.

You can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs.
Or, in this case, without firing a whole boatload of parasite bureaucrats.
Donald Trump hasn’t fired any “parasite bureaucrats”. He’s just flailing around and slashing random shit.

That’s the game!!! Who can’t live without who….the answer is we both need each other. Which brings me back to the main point. People are going to have to go the table and negotiate. That’s the name of the game!

Some people prefer the use of force.

Watch the news to see which side of the debate those people are on. Hint: It won't be MAGA.

They did. Both said they'd drop their tariffs if the US didn't tariff them.

Everyone should be angry at what Donald Trump is doing to this country. If you’re not, I question your patriotism.

Also... It is getting tiring to see people read the statistics as the devil reads the Bible.

I do not get it, the president holds up a piece of paper, and immediately everything he says is right.

This trade war, there are only losers!! Some are going to lose more than others.

And USA might be the first country to crumble.

🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

It feels so surreal, this should not be possible.. one man, one single man, is making the whole world economy fall apart.

.... There is something seriously wrong with the laws and legislation in USA. How come it is impossible to stop this guy? He is a threat to your country.

How is the whole world falling apart? It’s just a few tariffs. The doom and gloom is rampant. That’s why I think a year from now, one will even remember this.

The republicans said Biden was going to ruin the country and what happened? Nothing really

Now Trump is signing some papers and everyone is screaming the sky is falling. I bet it turns out to be a nothing burger.

The Republicans were lying when they said Biden would ruin the country. Donald Trump started a trade war that crashed Wall Street.

It's a bit scary that in reality it's only a few thousand men that have the power over what happens in the world.
