DC, Dreamworks, whatever the parent company of Nickelodeon and Mtv is. I know those two are one company which really begs the question of why Ren and Stimpy wasn't on Mtv between Beavis and Butthead and Aeon Flux. Also Invader Zimm would have fit better (And been able to stretch more as an older teen young adult show) on Mtv. Also the creator of Zimm has a comic called Johnny the Homicidal Maniac from back in the day that would have been brilliant for Mtv.
The greatness of all the stuff we got later on Cartoon Network's adult swim (maybe not the exact shows but maybe yes) could have been a decade plus earlier with this. Venture Bros. Rick and Morty. Yadda yadda.
They don't own Cartoon Network. PREtty sure they don't own Star Trek. I could go on and on about stuff they don't actually own.
I'm not sure right now how I feel about how much they own because it barely seems to matter. Any argument about monopolies would require a LOT of companies get ripped into dozens of pieces for the exact same reasons. Reasons I agree with. At the same time, and this is especially true of movies and TV but also of video games if we want innovation companies need to be in a position to roll the dice. Who the hell thought 'Guardians of the Galaxy would be a hit? I sure a shit didn't. I was expecting mediocre at best and a bomb was definitely high on my list. I was wrong mind you but Disney had enough money to take that chance. And to do it with Antman. And Black Panther. Both worked out. Hell I think Black Panther was the fastest to 1 billion dollars. Granted part of that was people like my father who hadn't been to a theater since the fucking 90's and showed up to represent a POC in a comic movie but money=money. WOKE!!!!!!!!!! Captain Marvel and The Eternals obviously did not work out. Captain Marvel sucked. How much Captain Marvel sucking and dragging down a psuedo sequel hurt will never be known but given how many people chant "Go woke, go broke" its not difficult to blame bigotry on it. The movie is pretty good. In a world where Ironman three made over a billion I'm heavily inclined to believe the connection between the quality of a movie and the profits it makes is tenuous at best.
Still Disney doesn't actually rule the world.

They were not in power. McCarthy's whole thing was that America was threatened by an underground movement of crypto-Communists -- and he never identified a single one, and in fact there were none. (There had been Communists in the State Department, but the Truman Administration purged them before McCarthy was ever heard of.) There was the CPUSA, with its negligible membership; there was a larger number of artists and intellectuals, and working-class people, who were Communist sympathizers to various extents but never joined the party; and that was all. Of course there were Soviet agents in the U.S., but they were only spies looking for information, not political agents trying to stir up a revolution in America -- the Soviet government never, at any time in its existence, perceived any serious possibility of that.
Has anyone here actually seen the movie? I went over the weekend and enjoyed it. Was it different from the original? Sure, but if you've ever read the original from The Brothers Grimm you know the original Disney cartoon was nothing like that. And there were enough cues from the original to make it fun for those of us who remember that.

I suppose many parents have opinions about Disney's ad campaigns targeting their kids, influence on their kids in the shows, or the cost of taking all the kids to see a movie that fails to entertain kids or adults. I don't have kids and haven't seen anything Disney in decades, so I am only an amused bystander of an obsolete corporate giant unemploying itself.
