The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

We had the Califon lumber company which was a pretty good hardware store. But the best by far was Finkels in Lambertville. There was stuff my dad would need that he could only get there.

Best place ever.

Rip- I just googled it to see if it was still in operation. I was there maybe three years ago. They closed for good last year. 😢

Here, we had Beckstoffer's and Siewer's, both lumber yards and millwork. Germans, of course. Beckstoffer's bellied up sometime 20 years ago of so - dated from the late 1800s. New apartments were built on the yard, and the old mill building and offices were converted into lofts. Some of the old wood was incorporated into the redo. That was a job I build and didn't get, which made for a very lean 2011. I did get all the cabinets in the apartments and in the apartment building across the street, so that helped me make up for it.

Siewer's is still doing well and has found their niche in the rehabs of the old townhouses in the yuppie sections. They have all of their millwork knives form long ago and can still run trim from 100 years ago that they don't sell any more except by special order.

I am glad they found their niche.... all these old companies are important.... we need them

I remember going in there and telling them to put it on our tab....my dad will pay later
I could still do that at the local store not too long ago. You didn't get a tab, unless you were local and everyone knew you, and knew you'd pay it off eventually.

I haven't bothered to ask if they're still doing it, although they must be. A local walked out with his six pack, even though he was short on cash the other day.

That store has been in the same family for over 100 years. It's small, but you can get nearly everything you want there. Although the meat counter is closed, which means the local beef is vacuum packed and frozen. But still good.

I suspect that the generations that came before were likewise great.

I suspect that Something Happened between then and Gen Z.

And it was something that shouldn't have happened . . . .
Climbing is a lot tougher than coasting or slipping down. While climbing, your muscles and brain adapt and become stronger. On top, one becomes complaisant, and amuses themselves all day or most of it.

Ya it's interesting here they collect properties usually in old neighborhoods and boom four story appt building spring up like popcorn popping...

Gods speed George Foreman:
To sleep, perchance to dream—ay, there's the rub:
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause—there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.

I got am egg straight from the chicken and fried up this am for a egg sandwich...it was delicious but tomorrow I am gonna fancy it up with sourdough bread and mayo/ mustard dressing i make for egg salad... and maybe a pc of cheese

I forgot how good egg sandwiches tasted
A weekend or so ago I got some quail eggs from our local farmers market. I assume about as fresh as it gets other than watching them drop and grabbing. Well…they were good buuuuuttt….have you ever tired to crack a quail egg? They’re tough as nails! I spent more time picking egg shell out of my pan…tiny shells fragments. 🤣. I think I’ll leave to to survival mode or gourmet dishes…

Did I mention Nursing is hard? I know our resident nurses know. You are my hero’s!

Now that spring is here we’re doing some Pacific NW MZ…

He was always my favorite of the Heavyweights. RIP George.

The old Woolworths on Main Street in Somerville, New Jersey was a great place. I have fond memories of it as a kid. it had one of those lunch counters, and that unstable Woolworths smell. (can’t describe it, but it smelled like an old school hardware store - not a bad smell at all)

But then it turned into this gigantic antique Emporium, which was also pretty great. It had a sign just like this in it!
We had an Eckerd’s drug store across from our high school. Old lunch counter and an no shit soda fountain, My dad took us there for years because they had a tube testing station for the vacuum tubes our old TeeVee set took at the time. It went through tubes so fast we just left the back off of it for ease of fix’n! 😂

How was the checkup?
Everything was good! They took her dressing off and cleaned the wound. She’s got a Frankenstein scar with staples now! They did some PT and the therapist said she did really well for where she’s at in the recovery. She was exhausted though. So I’m changing her dressing every two days now.

She’s getting around pretty well. Still has to use the walker but helped me in the kitchen once or twice and will walk gingerly a few steps. Still confined to downstairs in the reclining couch, but should be able to get back to going up and down in a few weeks.

There's quite a gap between strong and stubborn, I think. I will admit to being both, however, I don't believe I've ever been unreasonably stubborn. I am strong willed and need a man both strong enough and flexible enough to temper.
@Lilianna23 I agree entirely. A strong woman will put her case and stand her ground until she is proven to be wrong or must move on. A stubborn woman just clings on regardless to her, and everyone else’s, detriment. That can be said of both sexes.

An imbalance of power long term is not good in any relationship. It simply builds resentment.

This said, my father cautioned my to avoid both strong drink and strong women. I asked if it would help me live longer? His answer “No but it will bloody well feel linked it!”
