The Official (Most likely) 2025 Literotica April Fool's Day Contest Support Thread!!!

My entry is up, and the voters don't love it! Not sure if I just didn't hit the right marks for I/T or if people aren't enjoying my take on the contest rules.
Same here with 'Mirror Twin' , also in I/T - the comments are really nice (and much appreciated) but the votes are a bit 'meh'. I'm probably missing special ingredient for that audience, but I'm proud of the story regardless. And your story was great @APilgrimSquare

Your story wasn't missing anything. It was perfect. But there's still a lot of time left for votes to start taking an upswing..

Lesbian activity in I/T is frowned upon by a portion of the I/T readers. Very interesting premise in your story. I liked it.

Thank you both - that’s both helpful and kind, and your opinions are worth more than voting scores anyway. So the only twin sister fantasies allowed by some in I/T are ones with a guy involved as well? Dream on, fellas :)

And I’m also much relieved that nobody’s criticised the ballet choreography in the story yet…

I find that when you have a story that crosses over between multiple categories, it's really just up to the author to decide which they prefer it to be listed under. I tend to try posting it in whichever section feels most prominent.

For example, I have two dad/daughter stories that I posted in NonConsent instead of I/T. Because the way the stories unfolded, that just made more sense. Possibly I should have stuck with I/T since that category gets more exposure in general. But still.

I’m working on an I/T & CNC crossover now and wondering which category would be best. Do you feel your feedback was worse because you put it in nonconsent?

I had my contest story Being Stuck Turns Rough published and I'm happy with the score and votes, but was wondering if anyone would care to read it and give some constructive feedback.

I have published only few stories and I'm interested how the language feels to native speaker and other things to improve. I think I made a good job with the characters lines, but you tell me.

Thank you in advance.

No, the feedback was just fine. And the ratings came out just fine. The ONLY complaint I have is that I feel like the exposure wasn't there. So it wasn't read as many times as my other stories that I posted in I/T. But... I wouldn't do it any different if I had it to do over. Because I truly felt that story BELONGED in NonConsent. I would almost feel like I was forcing the category by posting it in I/T.

A number of posts over the past two years (and maybe longer?) have mentioned how difficult it is to come up with ideas or good stories for the April Fools contest. Recent posts on this board are indicating fairly good comments but so-so scores. I echo that. As I think this through, the 'surprise ending' of an April Fools story is often best done with clever setup, perhaps catching the 'fool' in a lie, or in some unexpected situation. And that setup may cross over categories in order break away from the typical storylines. The sudden change (revealing the fool) can catch readers by surprise, and conflict with their expectations. Hence the readers reward the author with a lower score. I do not blame the readers for this, but rather, it makes me more appreciate the skill of the authors who are able to successfully 'pull this off' and produce a wonderful story in this category. Kudos to several of the entries I have read!

Every time I've entered this contest, I've tried NOT to make the "fool" too sudden or off-putting. It's never helped. This year's entry, like others I've done, featured what I thought of as heavy foreshadowing... but as I read it back to myself before ultimately deciding not to submit it, I questioned whether it might have been too subtle even so.

It's a weird theme.

I hadn't intended to enter this contest -- April Fool's is not my favorite holiday -- but had a late brainwave and put together April's Fool. April Fool's is an annoying holiday; how much worse would it be if April 1st was your birthday? Pretty obnoxious, I reckoned. And while I don't do as much with that premise as I wanted to, I enjoyed stretching out my comfort zone as a writer and doing my first threesome scene, my first anal scene, and my first rimjob scene. I've been bad so far about finding reasons to delay the sex, so it was good for me to write something where there wasn't going to be a later to push it off to, and ultimately I had more fun writing this than I thought I would.

It's not my favorite theme, either. For me, I guess I was kinda fortunate that an idea popped in my head out of the blue, so I went with it. (Mine is silly: Dad has a daughter named April, and every year he plays a prank on her because of her name. But this year, he goes too far and gets a little too risqué. So April decides to prank him back by also being risqué, which kind of backfires on both of them, but in a good way.)

I wonder what percentage of female main characters in these stories over the years are named April. One of the things I didn't do enough with (but would have had this been an ongoing series rather than a one-off, or maybe I'll revisit it in a prequel) is that the thing which kinda brought the male and female main characters together* is that her name is April, so she hates April Fool's Day as much as he does, creating a sort of us-against-the-world bond.

My entry was approved for publication in under 45 minutes. I think that's the fastest I've seen between submission and acceptance for me.

It features cuckolding, CNC, and slight bi-male interaction. I imagine it's gonna limp along and die pretty quick.

My story about parallel dimensions unfortunately got too big to handle, so I'm going to submit it as a series in April instead.

Honestly, I don't think I'll participate in any more of these. My story went up, and the first review is a 1 of 5. That happened less than an hour after posting. The work is a 21 thousand words long novella, it's obvious they didn't read it. Presumably this is review spiking of contest entries. I don't really care about seventy five dollars in Amazon coupons or whatever, I'm writing for exposure. Review spiking like that really hurts visibility, a lot of people don't click on stories with an aggregate less than 4, and it takes four 5s to recover from one 1.

I finished my April Fools entry, it'll be going into the Humor category, not that it's funny. I just need to go through it and find all the mistakes. I should look for a volunteer editor.

Lyin' Eyes Mine just went live a bit ago. I still expect it to go down in flames quickly. Was fun to write, though, and it's super short.

My sole AF entry had the girlfriend named 'Mae' and of course that grasping detail pratfalled flatter than the story itself.

I didn't think about that, one of my characters is named Avril, French for April. Completely unintentional.

Enjoyed it, as for not being a native English speaker, don't worry, your use of English is spot on so don't change a thing!

My story's been submitted. Now to figure out that fine balance between the magical number of clicks just to see if it's been posted and annoying Laurel so much with all the checking that she shoves my story off the Lit table with her cute little furry paw.
