What is erotic horror?

It has been quite a while since I last talked about this topic, but what do you think when it comes to erotic horror? What kind of story do you expect when erotic horror comes to your mind? What do people like about this genre? Personally, I believe an erotic horror story should be scary with a little bit of eroticism.

This is a niche category, and the best example of a story I read from there was one by MSTarot called "Victoria's Valentine," which had a mom possessed by an evil spirit that manifested traits of Harley Quinn (the possessed woman beats a man to death but has all these hilarious one-liners)! I found it both scary and funny--in addition to witty. Shame it wasn't a page longer because it was very well done except for 1-2 missing items, which included the incomplete conclusion.

I'm sure there are edgier ones, but that one impressed me!

There should be a sense of dread, I think, that gradually builds up. The characters, and preferably the reader too, should not know what the danger is, or if it's even real. Fear and arousal should go hand in hand - uncomfortably so for the reader - and form the central conflict of the story: do you trust your instincts and fight or flee, or do you succumb to your desires and suffer the consequences?

I've attempted it a few times, although only one story is in the Erotic Horror category (The Countesses of Tannensdal). Lights, Camera, Blood: Ch. 02 is my chapter in a chain story, and would work better as EH if the POV character was in fact the main character in the entire story. Not A Soul is a sci-fi story, and of the three I think this one comes closest to what a erotic horror should (or could) be. Although it might have benefitted from perhaps 3-5k words more build-up in the middle section.

I can't think of an erotic horror story that I've ever read, but I haven't done looking for them either. I've had an idea for one for quite a while now, but haven't been motivated to get it in writing. But I have seen some erotic horror porn that was super creepy as well as very arousing. The one I remember most was called Cthulhu, but it was more like The Shape of Water as a horror story. The actress was very hot and even convincing as the scientist in charge of monitoring this merman type thing. Had a cthulhu-type face with octopus tentacles and such. Ends up becoming hypnotized by it, letting it out, and fucking it. Best example I've seen.

I class it as a story where there are horror themes combined with erotica, but the erotic scenes are strictly between human characters. Erotic scenes between humans and supernatural beings like vampires, ghosts, werewolves, monsters and aliens would go to the 'Non Human' genre.

As an example, if someone wrote a story about a family living in a haunted house and the edest daughter - an 18-year-old cheerleader - and her jock boyfriend are trying to have sex while alone in the house and poltergeists are bothering them, this would be Erotic Horror. Likewise a 'slasher' story where a group of college students go camping in the woods and there are various intimate encounters between them before the horror starts, this would also be EH.

Conversely, a story about a girl who's boyfriend is an 800-year-old vampire or a nerdy guy who has a realistic, life-sized doll as a girlfriend to the despair of his family only for the doll to turn into a real woman whenever nobody else is around would be non-human stories.

Related: The Erotic Horror category seems to suffer from low readership. I was just giving it a look (I have an idea of my own) and even some well written and well rated stories struggle to reach 1K readers.

I had two entries there-both since pulled to add to and publish as novels in the market-and the readership isn't just on the smaller side, but they're a tough crowd. Not tough as in they're obnoxious trolls, but not the fawning "Oh, that was so awesome!" type, they want what they want and will call out things that don't seem right to them.

I've been contemplating this question myself since I have an idea for a story with a ghost who decides to play sex therapist but does not himself get involved in the sex. Since the ghost isn't directly involved then it's definitely not non-human. But while he does scare the humans repeatedly he's also the focus character so I don't think there'll be any scary build up so would it even fit in erotic horror or should it just go in scifi/fantasy?

There are some violent zombie stories on Literotica.

If you want video erotic horror, there's a Pornhub channel with a website which does erotic horror. It had zombie nurses giving blowjobs, vampires, women kept like rabbits in cages to breed with a bit of dirt and hay in there. There was also some video with Amazon bitches who were looking for breeding men. I'm guessing the horror theme is death by snu-snu.
