What Are You Thinking? Continued 14

Jitsi, anyone? I'll always go for the thing that doesn't mean I have to put my face, and possibly lots more, on some company's server.
discord doesnt require a photo and im fairly sure that anything that is deleted is not stored on any server and is deleted for all parties, unlike skype or other services.

The thing with discord is that even if one person leaves a conversation or deletes their profile the conversation is still available on the other users side.
true, unless you individually delete messages...but if you individually delete them, they are gone for everyone, they are not stored...sorry if i didnt explain it clearly.

Oh you are all good and explained it just fine :)
I’ve used Skype, telegram and discord and each have plusses and minuses. Discord is pretty easy to use abs group chats work well on it. Telegram feels the most private(no IP access) as long as you hide your phone number. It is interesting that Skype is leaving though. I wonder if teams offers the same anonymity. 🤔

I read that if you use the same login, it will import all Skype info. I'll play with it tomorrow. And also look at Signal. I'm glad we have a long run up to make preparations but jeez. 🫤

I never had a Skype account.
So please pardon my ignorant question, but does thaf 5/5 deadline give you time to get all the stuff you don't want to lose off of it?

Or is just mainly sucking because Skype was a familiaf haunt and you know all its bells and whistles?

It's switching to Microsoft Teams and you sign in with your Skype account, that's the way i understand it.

A bit of both?
Mainly it's familiar and comfortable but I have years of chats with people that mean quite a lot to me and some important bookmarked messages. I guess I can screenshot or save things that I value.

Mainly I just know people will scatter and I'll lose the ease of contact with some folks. Hopefully the ones that I care most about will pick the same alternative. It's just a bummer.

I read the Microsoft release about the shutdown, basically everything is transferred over to "Teams"...... all info will be saved by Microsoft, chats, contacts etc..... all the Telephone oriented features will be deleted after 2 months. So the service goes away, you have to port your phone number or lose it....sad, was a great service.

You get 2 options, transfer all of your chats/info/contacts to new service or just sign up to "Teams", Microsoft's apparent alternative where they already have transferred all of Skype's info. In any case all of the telephone features will cease, no more phone Voip service.

One quick and easy way to save all of your chats etc is to switch to "Teams" now, just to preserve your info, then move things when your sure of where your going.....Your right about friends and contacts though, everyone will not pick the same new service....we will likely lose track of some people........Like you I have chats and messages from people who were close to me and not here now I want to keep....so looking for options....
