Gov. Nuisance has made application for federal funding to rebuild the LA area after the devastating, and largely self-inflicted, fires. This even though he swore he would take no monies with any strings attached. Of course President Trump and Speaker Johnson are of completely different opinions re. sending money to CA and have repeatedly stated that there's going to be strings, a LOT of strings.

Oh, they're going to get the money but it's going to come with a LOT of strings and under a very detailed contract. There is one point that both Trump and Johnson are adamant about, the enactment of state wide voter ID. I'm sure there will be some ancillary details attached to that. And the feds will have virtually complete control of how those monies are spent. The days of CA's creative 'diversionary funding' are over. And what happens in these negotiations with CA is going to serve as a model as to what other states can expect going forward.

Buckle up, it's going to be fun to watch.

  • California is 14% of the USA Economy
  • California’s economy ranks fifth internationally, behind the US, China, Germany, and Japan.
  • On a per capita basis, California’s GDP is greater than that of all of these countries.

And that has what to do with what?

ish would have cried everclear tears if president biden put stipulations in fema funds for the east coast natural disasters.

and those were caused by giant jew lasers!

As you said, it’s going to be fun to watch.
It will, mostly watching the state officials squirm and pretend they're negotiating from a position of strength.

A more serious response to your clout remark. Exactly what are they going to do? Threaten to start voting Republican? All of the individuals and business concerns to spontaneously refuse to pay Federal taxes? Secede (Oh how sweet that would be)?

I was waiting for you to say that…i think it’s really the beginning of the 28 campaign, so draining those reservoirs, scuttling the trains and all the other Mr Big moves DJ will make Newsome sway swing D votes back in other states over the next 2 and 4 yr cycles.

Right now Newsom is damaged and unpopular… but then again, so was Trump 4 years ago.

I tend to agree and that's why Trump is going to be absolutely ruthless re. Nuisance all the while playing up to John and Mary Average Citizen. The last president that played the political game at the level Trump is was FDR.

You can bet your bottom dollar that the people that will be helped by these funds are going to be made VERY aware that the Federal Mana is flowing from Trump, not Nuisance.

California has a large population and a large economy. Been that way for over a century. However, it is not an independent country. The governor doesn’t get to set the terms of federal relief aid. That’s up to Congress and the White House.

Trump is no FDR.

California, Texas and New York together represent 30% of us gdp so yes, each has special status and extra political clout.

In their congressional delegation for certain. But both NY and CA's clout is slowly slipping away as the populations flee those respective states.

Actually….You’re right; by the numbers Cali has very little political clout.

Only 2 pres, both R.

If you bother to look at CA's voting patterns in this past election you'll notice that they're drifting republican and I suspect that drift will only accelerate should Trump and Johnson get the concessions they're demanding.

They’ve been an R state on and off; many black male entertainers for example love Trump’s brassiness.

It's the Latin vote in the central valley that's shifting the fastest. Which way LA goes in the next election will be fun to watch as well.
