On the other hand, Hitler didn't quit while he was ahead. If he'd settled down in 1940 and talked peace we might, today, be living in a world where the German Reich included what is now Germany, plus Czechoslovakia, East Prussia, Austria and half of Poland. It could have been the greatest industrial power on the planet. Japan and the USA would have fought out the war in the Pacific, but that minor victory wouldn't have turned the USA into a superpower. The Soviet Union might still be around, but it was only the herculean effort to defeat the Nazis that propelled them to superpower status (and insane paranoia). They would have proceeded straight to the Brezhnev era of stagnation without ever sending Gagarin into orbit.

Perhaps President Trump will get lucky and enjoy a good economy (his business backers will probably talk him out of the troublesome tariffs and remind him that the USA needs cheap immigrant labour to harvest lettuce and put shingles on roofs) and not invade anyone like his predecessors did.

In 2029 he could be grinning happily at the inauguration of Mr Vance or some other acolyte who will take the fall when the house of cards finally comes crashing down.

When has Trump ever listened? Nah, he'll throw on the tariff's and when they fail miserably,he'll claim some kind of victory. His cult will then rejoice in the battle he has won against the USA's trading partners. Similar to 2019 I suspect.
