I too gave up on the dark forest. I was listening to them though. I didn’t dislike the first bookNothing. I gave up on The Dark Forest, the sequel to The Three-Body Problem. I've never struggled so mightily through one and a half books in my life. Decided my time was better spent doing virtually anything else. Like maybe giving my electric clippers a good cleaning.
I felt like 2/3 of the first book were completely unnecessary. Didn't even realize it was the first in a trilogy, so was so disappointed that it ended with a huge cliffhanger. But at least it set the stage for an exciting sequel. The sequel has even more complete irrelevance to slog through. It could have the best ending of all time and I wouldn't care. Maybe I'll just skip to the third one. Highly doubt I would have missed anything in the first two that I really needed for the finale.I too gave up on the dark forest. I was listening to them though.
