This should never have happened, and they should have been able to speak to someone prior to reaching the detention center.

“My sister, speaking in English, explained that, not only are they American citizens, but that they are from Puerto Rico, they were born in Puerto Rico,” the family member—who spoke anonymously for fear of the family’s situation—said. After the mother produced identification documents including birth certificates, the family member said officials became apologetic. “I’m so sorry,” one told them. The family then had to call and pay for a ride back from the facility.

So, this family was abducted on the streets of America by the agency of the current American gov't, and then had to pay to get back to where they were taken from! This is obscene!

In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, Trump never really seemed to understand that Puerto Rico is U.S. territory and its people are citizens.

Trump feared his father and was not nurtured by his mother. His sister hated Don and his insatiable lies. None of this is relevant to Trump's communication style. He doesn't have a working knowledge of American English other than a few words associated with cheeseburgers or white nationalist terms.

Hope this helps, knowing that he has no idea what Scots Gaelic or German languages sound like or even a vocabulary word in either.

Pro-tip. In the US, Spanish is no more a foreign language than English.
