I've hit Ignore on some of the more deranged Politics posters, and now their blatantly racist/sexist/transphobic nonsense doesn't show up on my New feed...
But it sucks that that kind of content is even tolerated on this forum in the first place

Do you think an online petition would be effective at all, jaF0? I know Lauren and Manu are pretty hands off in most regards, but would a petition with several hundred Litsters names have any affected all?

Most of the GB very outspokenly did not want the Politics Board, incidentally. That didn’t stop it from happening. Removing the board won’t remove those posts; it will just send them back to the PG.

We (It's me, really) don't want them there, either!
As was mentioned previously, I simply block people there who start thread so they don't show up in my "new posts"...but, I also use "threads I watch" and don't deviate too much.

I have a LOT of the political posters on ignore. It really makes the place (PB) a lot more palatable. I do remain surprised that the hate speech is allowed to stay. Feels very 4Chan.

Out of morbid curiosity, I took a quick peek in the Politics forum... Right now in the top ten posts I saw blatant racism against Native Americans, Spanish speakers and Muslims, and a bunch of homophobia and transphobia.
I reported some of them, but it's all pretty pervasive

I dunno - I've often found Lit a good sparring ground to prime me for the hatred IRL. I probably have over hundred Lit trolls on my iggy. If you see an unpleasant thread, find the OP, ignore them and the whole thread disappears.

Entire Lit Forum needs to go back to being about the story side, a place for authors and readers to mix.
Wipe most picture threads, but leave a few for story inspiration type discussion.

I've had some success with this, but I don't want to eliminate some of the posters from being seen in some of the other threads I follow. Just because we don't agree on politics, doesn't mean we won't have common ground in other parts of the site. I think keeping that section makes sense, to keep it from bleeding out into the other parts (I know it already does, but it would be worse without the PB). I just want to be able to block the board so the post don't show up in New Posts.

I manage to stay off the politics board for a while - but some racist and hateful headlines show up in the new posts feed that I felt compelled to report…. now I’m pulled back in.

It’s like how it’s hard look away at the scene of an accident. I come to lit for other things - fun and smut mostly, the politics board ruins my day.
If I could block the political board headlines I would never go there.

Oh wow. That's odd - I've never used the New Posts option. I just cruise threads I've already posted in and then have a browse around. I can imagine New Posts would be a scatter gun of poop.
