Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense

Yep. He graduated from Princeton and has a Masters from Harvard. He worked as a capital markets analyst at Bear Stearns and that's no job for dummies. He was Major in the Army and that takes some doing too. My husband was a Captain by time he got out and it's a tough job. Making Major is nothing to be sneezed at. You need to know your stuff. Ten years with Fox News has kept him in the spotlight and in front of people.

He's qualified, smart and conscientious.

As for drinking, which some here have snarked about, if you haven't been in the military, basically, STFU.

I don't think the media or the DC intelligentsia realize that to a lot of veterans, the fact that Pete Hegseth developed a drinking problem after coming home from the GWOT, and then BEAT that drinking problem, is a huge PLUS and is in no way a negative. Most veterans know too friends who came home from the wars with demons they could not defeat, who descended into substance abuse and could not get out--and then some of whom even took their own lives. My husband volunteers with an organization that helps veterans deal with this stuff.

Pete Hegseth understands what our military adventurism means in a fundamental way that the Liz Warrens and Mitch McConnell's (and most of you, too) of the world will NEVER get. Pete has been there, but beat it. Neither does he have any ties to the MIC, unlike Austin and pretty much all his predecessors. THAT is an even better thing. He's focused on the mission and the people, NOT where is next grift is coming from. He gave up a few million bucks a year to take this job - and you can't say that for Austin or many of his predecessors either.

Something else to consider is that he’s a blend of the 2 big archetypes you see in the military, which are in a lot of ways polar opposites . He’s both a rough around the edges grunt AND a polished “professional” with an impressive academic pedigree. He’s the guy that would be equally at home hanging out in the barracks with the boys on the weekend or discussing the inner workings of strategy and policy in the Pentagon.

He's the right man for the job.
I guess some people don't quite understand that DEF/SEC is a civilian position surrounded by generals and civilian staffers. The fact that he has a pedigree education and military experience is a plus. Some of your highest level corporate CEO's manage with an MBA. The crux of any leader of an organization is leadership. SEC/DEFs of all the branches are civilians for a reason, they're the liaisons between the CiC and the different commands. He will certainly rely on talented people around him. SEC/DEF very rarely travels without his CoS. If there was on weakness that I would point out is procurement.

Don Rumsfeld served 3 years as a naval aviator.
Dick Cheney never served in the military.

Yes, 51-50 is a majority, albeit the slimmest possible majority. Your grasp of math is getting better!

Three Republican Senators voted against him (Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine, it seems they don't approve of workplace sexual predators, and Mitch McConnell of Kentucky).

NC Senator Thom Tillis also swore he'd vote against Pete Hegseth, but after seeing the voting totals realized that HE would share the brunt of the MAGA wrath for Hegseth's defeat so he tucked his tail and voted in favor of Hegseth.
Yep. It’s a majority and if you’ve been paying attention all these years, a majority is a majority in politics. Just like Bipartisan means only one opposition party member has to vote with the majority and then the majority gets to crow that it was a bipartisan bill. Them’s the facts…

Thom Tillis is a reed that bends in the wind. He’s the worst kind of RINO and you can believe he doesn’t give a shit about his constituents. Well, he reads the temp of the room and saw that it was getting chilly by not supporting Hegseth. I wish Laura Trump would primary his ass.

What do you notice about this from Turtle Boy?

The problem is the defamatory press he received. He had a drinking problem and he beat it. He was accused of rape and that was debunked. He should of filed suit but with the lying media once a story gets out you'll always be guilty by association. So he agreed to an NDA. Megyn Kelly has a very up front and honest conversation with Pete on her podcast. A very interesting interview.

He won't sue because all of the press was.true.

Nope. Lies. Usual press BS. They pulled stuff out of thin air. Hope his sister in law takes the msm to court. She'll take them to the cleaners.

Good luck on your expectations.

He never did deny the accusations under oath directly.

Well, if you've been in, I take that STFU back in your case. You know.

And no, I met my husband well after he got out. He did 2 tours in Afghanistan, the 2nd as a company commander, never got passed over because he'd had enough of it and bailed out. But all well before he met me. So I never got to do the military wifey thing and I'm not a throw my husband's weight around type anyhow. LOL. My granddad was in the Army and I heard enough stories about things like that.....

That said, my husband volunteers with veterans and I see some of this, so that part of it I understand. And I stand by what I said, Hegseth is not your run of the mill ex-Captain or Major, he's qualified, he's a smart guy, he's got over his problems, which I have also seen, and he'll do a good job of cleaning out the rot.

But in the end, the only proof is the end result. And he is now SecDef, so let's wait and see.

Maybe your Hubby and Pete served together, they were both infantry and in Iraq about the same time. 2003?

The complaint of rape was not debunked, it was denied. That does not mean the same thing.
He was never charged. A complaint is not a charge. The evidence didn't support what the bitch lie about. As much as you'd like the accusations to be true, there not! He had a legitimate NDA and also had a strong legitimate defamation lawsuit had he gone forward.

I get tickled at you and your "elk" attempting to use the word "warrior" or the phrase "warrior culture" to shut down discussion. (I saw Hegseth try to use that horseshit at his confirmation hearing too)

News flash: It doesn't work with me.

The bottom line: I served my country, you served McDonalds happy meals. We are not the same.

Having said that, a deal is a deal. You answered my question so I'm looking for the Riley Gaines rant. I saw it two days ago, and I haven't located it yet, but I will. That woman is a shitposter supreme...she is best described as "Lance_Castro with slightly smaller tits".
Correction: I never worked at McDonalds.

Funny how they like to throw rape charges around, yet tolerated and defended tooth and nail this known rapist.

Hegseth has a troubled history, which any veteran can have. Problem is, he has a troubled history of leading a small non-profit. Has he conquered his demons or will they surface when he is faced with the enormous pressure of heading a behemoth he has not even the slightest experience.

What rape accusation was debunked? He paid off a woman (he most likely roofied and fucked) and both signed an NDA. Then as a SecDef candidate discredited her by lying that she had falsely accused someone else before. His mother even called him out as an abusing asshole. He’s a scumbag.

Listen to Megyn Kelly’s podcast. It’s genuine, truthful and in detailed chronological order of events. It convinced me that he’s worth a shot. At the beginning of his campaigning for the spot I was not convinced he was the man, I am now. He has a great solid family and he’s admitted his faults and has ridden himself of his demons. Is he ready to lead such a large organization? I’ll know when I see who he surrounds himself with. He doesn’t have to lead a division into combat. He needs to set standards in training. Procurements needs to be followed on schedule, deadlines need to be achieved. That’s his job. Eliminate DEI. He’s there to enforce Trump’s directives.

She’s no better than any talking head selling their soul for a dollar. She’s nothing more than entertainment at this point in her journalistic career decline. Still hot, though!

Fair enough.

Maybe. Under immense pressure? We’ll see.

He led a not at all large non-profit into bankruptcy. No wonder trump likes him. Seriously though, putting DEI on notice with a sharpie is classic trump.

Rather unusual that we get thundering denunciations of any and all claims until they have an opportunity to testify under oath. When Trump's OMB office gets around to declaring perjury laws unconstitutional, I suspect they will all willingly to testify to the truthiness of their lies.

If it s leadership, how in the hell did that dumbell Austin manage to stay there for 4 years? He was not a leader, just a hayboy do this and that indoctrinate the troops that white is bad and black is great.
