The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

I was thinking you were starting soon...is it a big commute?

It's an out-of-town work assignment. The office is a bit over 3 hours away. The first job is 2 hours and 45 minutes from the house. I'm trying out AirBnBs for lodging. I signed on to my first one, and it's half of what the allowance they'll give me is. Once I will be somewhere for awhile, then I can do some serious shopping.

I'm looking forward to it.

Nice... when i traveled as a nurse I did something similar and would pocket the other half.... some of them were nicer than others...

The clowder is not gonna know what to do?!?

Consensus: Long Day for most everyone on the thread
Barkeep - A round of Big Hugs for everyone!!!

What time is it? That's right, kids... it's Catch Up Time
Dementia is a horrible disease, so my heart goes out to you. My dad had it for a few years and I think my mum may be starting to show signs of it.
Omg, thank you Jay. I was struggling with this and everything I came up with would have just fed into it or some emotional damage to someone. I love that idea. I can't see a downside if she doesn't refuse it outright.
@JayInLondon Beautifully said and thank you for sharing some of the things that have helped you.
@Mittering 🫂 Good luck and hope there's some help and support through your loved one's medical team that can assist. Dementia is so challenging on all involved, not just the patient!
Maybe we are all in 1957 and just don't know it! 🤣🤣🤣
I hope not... that's a level of math and physics that are beyond my capabilities.
I'm feeling MUCH better!

Get that passport renewed!!!
💯 Lots of places won't let you use a passport if it is within 6 months of the expiration date.
I think we become acclimated to the climate we live in after time.
Agreed
We usually have enough frozen blueberries to last us throughout the year. (We do eat a lot - in our breakfast most mornings)
I have some every day in my protein shake
@Wonderer67 🤨 :LOL:
I think this year we should all get together in person. Serious!
We need to have a reunion!!
I think we should rent a big house somewhere like Gatlinburg or at the beach that sleeps as many people as we need...... trial by fire.
Great idea!
Bring those pets if you can. They are almost as much a part of this thread as anyone.
Absolutely!!!!
BuT...did you zoom in??????
🤣🤣🤣
Strong Dirty Harry energy here...
"Well, punk, did you?"
BINGO!

It was the Bigfoot pose.
Knew it!! 😁
You nailed the pose!
This was a last ditch effort... i don't want unpleasantness
🤗 Really glad it worked out. Work is hard enough without adding... unpleasantness
I remember those days. The worst cold I was in was in Denver CO at Lowry AFB going to tech school. The place ran 24 7 and we had to march to school. I don't know the acutal temps anymore but some guys got frost bite and after that we could just walk to classes.
The building where our offices are located is connected to several other buildings by tunnel. The whole loop is just under 1 mile.
One of the campuses up North is the same. Kids could use the tunnels year round and never have to go outside. But mostly they're for the winters where temps are -20F or more coupled with those dangerous wind chills
I’m gonna buck (round) a bunch of dead ash trees, load em on my trailer and bring em down to the farm buildings to be split.

It’s gonna be much warmer.

I have five cords of silver maple which isn’t as good firewood as oak, ash, other types of maple.

A few people told me no one would know the difference, I could just sell silver maple since I have so much of it at the same price.

But I would know. And I won’t sell an inferior product.

And I need to split a bunch of kindling, since we’re almost out of that too.
I'm tired just reading that... and those logs? How the heck did your chain saw manage if they're all frozen solid? That's a lot of elbow grease!!
It is amazing how people will deliberately screw people over because " they won't know"
I've lost count how many times I've told people, "Just because you can doesn't mean you should."
I didn't find out until decades later. We had a reunion and my buddy told me and had found out from his GF who he had stayed in touch with. Girls mature more quickly but damn.
It's called Jail Bait for a reason... just saying 😲
hmmm... I would have thought snatch-squach rather than big foot
Isn't snatch-squach a weightlifting move?
Clean snatch
Snatch-squach
sounds right to me 🤷‍♀️
I so love you guys…..yes we were battered yesterday as our house is on the side of a hill facing west. We look out down the estuary and out to sea on the west coast and a little south of the worst hit area!. I am pleased to say there is no damage just a few branches down. Lots of general damage but we survived unscathed! Farm buildings in particular, lost roofs etc.
{{{ @Greylag }}} Just because Scotland has a Windy Season doesn't mean it's not harrowing. SO glad you and the pups are all unharmed and damage is material and hopefully relatively minor.
Out-of-whack week. Using the weekend to get back in whack.
Welcome back - missed you!!
Great attitude - have fun with it and get out some aggressions. Nice!
Need to get the cabinet legs cut down 1/4 inch so i can fit it where I want it.... have to figure that out.
You've got this!! I'm 💯 positive the cabinet will look fabulous in the new spot you picked out, too!!
I somehow accidentally contaminated my work space with what I'm pretty sure is mold.
🤬🤬🤬 I'm so sorry! It's so easy to do, but not very easy to correct. 🍀on the decon
The rest of the day not so good.... 9t started with the puff corn then a charcuterie board qnd chocolate covered almonds..... then ..then..then

Must be a hungry day
Some days are more hungry days than others. Maybe your body needed a little extra today.
Tomorrow will be a new day... and a new chance to make different choices. 🫂
Home!!!! TDK is home, too.
Ethyl wasn't angry this time.
Geezer Cat had his birthday, so he's 18 now.
Ethyl was really pissed at me the first time or two that I left her. She seemed genuinely pleased that we were home today.
Welcome home!!
Happy Birthday, Geezer Cat!!

No...but I think my dad does

I was gonna use a jigsaw and pray for the best

Jigsaw will probably chip out wood. If you do that, put masking tape over where you want to cut. Press it down hard, and make sure it's stuck, mark it, the trim carefully. Sometimes a sharp knife cut as your line will stop the chipping. If the grain is already broken, it can't chip!

A Japanese style hand pull saw would work too. Probably get one at your local hardware store. That would be slow and controlled.

Belt sander with coarse grit belt will move a lot of material. Mark the edge with a pencil line or something, set cabinet on it's side so you can watch your progress, then slowly sand down to the line. Lean the sander to cut to the line first, then flatten the cut out.

Lots of ways to skin that cat. (But none the cat is gonna like! Lol)

I qm sort of scared of power tools.... I think I am gonna try the Japanese hand pull saw first...... I can get one easy and take it slow and steady

That’s why I used to like Charleston Chew and Marathon bars when I was a kid. More candy bar for your junk food dollar. (I think they were a quarter.)
I love Charleston chews

If you throw them in a freezer for a bit you can make them last longer and possibly pull out a filling.... I was gonna say snap in pieces and suck on them but we know who we are talking to

....oh wait I said it......hahahahaha

Gnight all!

Time for bed.
Sleep well - hall pass issued to skip the 3am club
For anyone else who wants one, too 🎫

My BFF loved Jolly Ranchers*. Drove her parents crazy.
She spent more time at the orthodontist's office than school for a couple years. Always pulling sections of her braces off.

ETA: For anyone not familiar with American candies or sweets in general... Jolly Ranchers are hard candies. I think there are new variations now??

Good morning early folk. Although up at 4 am to take care of my dog who needs his meds, I needed coffee first. So I could have caught Lili.

My hard work to get 7 hours or more of continuous sleep is out the window with the dog and his meds schedule. I am now on a course of 6 core hours with naps during the day. Not ideal until I talk to the Vet.
Your pup is a lucky dog! 🫂🫂🫂 for both of you!

I think we become acclimated to the climate we live in after time. I used to laugh at my daughter when she would come back to PA and say how cold it was. She lived down here for years. Now I find myself feeling the cold temps that up north I would have thought as not so bad. Humidity level has an effect too. I pulled out boxes with my lined jeans, turtlenecks and fleece line shirts and jackets.
You're right. I don't do heat or humidity well. We have juuuust the right amount of humidity here for me. I have noticed the summers being much warmer, tho, with increased drought levels. 😖😖
