There may be a vow of Charity, requiring sharing within the Order - from each according to their Gifts, to each according to their Need. Communism came from christian/catholic communes with similar goals, after all, just perhaps not as kinky as this might be.

I think her ears are glowing because light from the spot is shining through them - transillumination.
I'm pretty sure the garment has tiny fairy lights sewn into it. There are a lot of options for applications like that now.
