The Department of Government Efficiency (aka DOGE)

President-elect Elon Musk injected some badly needed reality into the pie-in-the-sky DOGE controversy by starting to walk back the outlandish "We're gonna save a trillion bucks" hyperbole today.

Elon Musk says DOGE probably won't find $2 trillion in federal budget cuts

Musk previously said his Department of Government Efficiency would be able to recommend cuts to the federal budget of “at least $2 trillion.”

It's almost as if the convicted sexual predator's team said/promised anything and everything....just to get elected!

I'm waiting to see the newly promised "no tax on tips" legislation.

I'm predicting a variation on the "NOBODY KNEW how difficult this would be...." excuse.

The “no tax on tips” legislation is a red herring covered in crumbs:

It could be done, but it’s impacts in any direction would be minimal.

The “no tax on social security”legislation is where the “NOBODY KNEW” line will likely be invoked.

And, of course, grocery, healthcare, and housing prices will NOT go down. Nor will general taxes on common folk…

😑

I, for one, am looking forward to the promised 50% cut in the price of eggs and gasoline on Dictator Day, January 20, 2025.

Vivek Ramaswamy expected to depart DOGE

Vivek Ramaswamy, President-elect Donald Trump's choice to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with entrepreneur Elon Musk, is expected to soon step away from the task force, CBS News has learned. Ramaswamy intends to announce a campaign for Ohio governor as soon as the end of January, multiple sources confirmed to CBS News.

Ramaswamy, 39, had no comment.

People close to Musk have privately undercut Ramaswamy for weeks, frustrated with his lack of participation in the heavy lifting, according to sources familiar with the internal dynamics. There has been friction between the incoming rank and file DOGE staff and Ramaswamy, the sources said, and Ramaswamy has been subtly encouraged to exit.

This isn't very efficient.

Whatever they do find will immediately be spent by 47.
How much does it cost to:
  • ship out illegals
  • build a wall
  • invade Canada
  • invade Panama
  • invade or buy Greenland
My guess is you are right about spending that. But don't worry, it will be paid for by tariffs. 🤥

Dolly Parton is 79 today, not much doubt who is the best entertainer from this lot.

and shortly after ramaswamy's departure announcement, another one is quitting:

Elon Musk’s much-hyped White House panel is losing its top lawyer to the private sector mere days into its existence, a Wall Street Journal report revealed Thursday.

Bill McGinley, whom Donald Trump tapped to be the Department of Government Efficiency’s lead counselor last month, no longer wishes to continue in the role. His departure comes after Vivek Ramaswamy was pushed out earlier this week.

“I am in discussions regarding a number of private sector opportunities and will have something to announce in the next couple of weeks,” McGinley told the Journal. “I support President Trump, Vice President Vance, and the great teams in the White House and across the administration 100%.”

Elizabeth Warren sent Elon Musk 30 ideas for how DOGE can cut U.S. spending.

Elizabeth Warren has some suggestions for Elon Musk as he settles into his new White House role.

On Thursday morning, the senator sent Musk a letter with 30 recommendations for how his DOGE commission could slash $2 trillion in U.S. spending over the next 10 years.
In the letter, Warren suggested several progressive policies, including closing tax loopholes for corporations and the wealthiest earners, renegotiating Department of Defense (DOD) contracts, and allowing Medicare to negotiate lower costs for prescription drugs.
Warren claims in the letter that $200 billion could be preserved by renegotiating defense contracts, pointing to a 2011 report that found contractors regularly hike prices for the military.
Musk has not publicly addressed the letter, and representatives for the billionaire did not return Fortune‘s request for comment.

MTG is the chair of the House’s new DOGE subcommittee!

Because nothing says “we’re serious about government efficiency” like putting a lunatic in charge. 😄

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), whose mere presence on a committee is enough to cause upheaval, will be chairing Oversight's DOGE subcommittee.

Will she use Jewish space lasers to cut government spending?

It’s reassuring to see the congressman who thinks aliens have undersea bases on Earth is also on this illustrious committee!

Several of the GOP members are from the right-wing Freedom Caucus, with other big names such as Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) and freshman rising stars like Reps. Brian Jack (R-Ga.) and Brandon Gill (R-Texas).

Vivek Ramaswamy breaks silence on Musk and DOGE exit as Fox News teases entrepreneur for lasting only ‘three Scaramuccis’

Fox News didn’t pull punches when grilling Vivek Ramaswamy on why he left the so-called Department of Government Efficiency in his first appearance since he abruptly departed the project he was set to co-lead last week.

Presenter Jesse Watters mocked the biotech entrepreneur for lasting only “three Scaramuccis”—a term named after Anthony Scaramucci, Donald Trump’s former White House communications director, whose days in office in 2017 barely hit double digits.

Whether that’s a true measurement is unclear, since DOGE only existed unofficially prior to last Monday’s inauguration of Donald Trump.

Ramaswamy’s stint as the leader of an official group was so brief it didn’t even last to see the sunset on day one of the new administration.

In his first opportunity to address his high-profile departure, Ramaswamy denied he had a falling-out with Elon Musk, the co-creator of DOGE.

“We had different—and complementary—approaches,” he said. Whereas Musk examined the issue through a technological mindset, “I focused more on a constitutional law, legislative-based approach.”
