Barbecue sauce is amazing and ketchup is trash. I’m not really into gazpacho, but it could be considered a smoothie, where hot tomato soup could not.

I prefer barbecue sauce with a bit of kick to it, but in general, pretty much all barbecue sauce is better than ketchup, and it’s ketchup that is overly-sweet

BBQ sauce is also mostly ketchup.

Even if I don’t like it I make my children try it. How do you know this isn’t your favorite if you don’t taste it? At my age, though, I know what I like, and that isn’t BBQ!

I think my point is if you are out to dinner with someone and they order whatever food item it would be bad taste to comment on dislike of their food choice.

My sister grows heirloom tomatoes and makes her own ketchup. It is a whole different thing. Also makes a good base for BBQ sauce.

That is Kansas City style, the very sweet style. Make your own and you can adjust the flavor profile. An KC is only one style. There are a lot of different styles.

I grew up in a house that only purchased Heinz ketchup....
And even as an adult, if I visit a restaurant/ home that doesn't have Heinz I will either not use it or find a different condiment option....

Depends. Eastern NC is vinegar based. Piedmont is tomato based. Rest of Carolinas mustard.

Vinegar based works well with pulled pork. Balances out the rich meat and is thinner, so the meat shines, with a bit of a bite.

Totally agree. I tend to like mustard based with a lot of smoked sausages. Tomato based for smoked chicken and turkey and brisket. Usually no sauce for ribs.
