The Treaty of Tripoli was an agreement between the United States and the Barbary States (including Tripoli, Algiers, Tunis, and Morocco) in North Africa, which had been notorious for attacking American merchant ships and demanding tribute or ransom in exchange for safe passage. The treaty was signed to put an end to these piracy attacks and protect American interests in the Mediterranean.

Continued Naval Engagement with Pirates (Post-Treaty)​

Despite the treaty, piracy from the Barbary States didn't end immediately, and tensions remained. This led to continued conflicts:

Barbary Wars:​

  1. First Barbary War (1801–1805):
    • The Treaty of Tripoli failed to fully stop the Barbary pirates, and Tripoli declared war on the U.S. in 1801. President Thomas Jefferson sent the U.S. Navy to the Mediterranean to protect American ships.

    • After the War of 1812, the U.S. Navy returned to the Mediterranean and launched further military operations against the Barbary pirates, culminating in the Treaty of 1815 that ended piracy in the region.
    • The U.S. effectively dismantled the Barbary pirate system by demonstrating naval power, forcing the Barbary states to cease their piracy operations.

Pirates in South Asia and Beyond​

While the Barbary pirates in North Africa were the most immediate concern for the U.S. Navy during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the U.S. Navy also faced threats from pirates in other parts of the world, including South Asia:

South Asia & the Indian Ocean:​

  • The U.S. Navy, in the 19th century, also had interactions with pirates operating in the Indian Ocean and around the coast of South Asia, including the region around the Arabian Peninsula. These pirates were not specifically linked to the Barbary States but were sometimes connected to the broader conflicts and maritime trade routes.
  • U.S. naval operations in the Indian Ocean, especially under the command of the U.S. Navy's East India Squadron, involved protecting American merchant vessels from piracy, which often came from various pirate groups operating out of regions such as the Arabian Peninsula or the Indian subcontinent.

The U.S. Navy and the "Islamic Pirates"​

The U.S. Navy's engagements in these regions weren't necessarily driven by religious motivations, but were instead focused on securing maritime trade routes and protecting American interests. In later years, such operations would evolve into broader military engagements in the Middle East and South Asia, but the role of piracy remained a key factor in early U.S. naval history.

So as you can see, you have a lot to learn before attempting to gaslight us with limited knowledge.

Nothing in the Constitution prevents POTUS from securing the US borders. Quite literally the opposite.
