See, what happens is, right-wingers get elected by making unsustainable promises, usually lower taxes, and then piss away all the credit and run up the national debt because (whisper it) large scale national infrastructure cannot be sustained by pure capitalism alone. Why? Because when you're buying off shareholders, nobody gives a shit about the common good. It's all about who gets the biggest payout. It works for a few, and when the economic bubble's in an expansion phase can even work for many.

But it never works for everybody. When those expansionist bubbles burst and it all goes to shit in that way that boom and bust cycles do, the majority ends up worse off while the leeches at the top just sit tight and wait for the next upswing.
