How do you keep your underage kids away from your writings?

log out and also don't save the password for the site or firefox/chrome/edge/safari will helpfully provide the keys to the Kingdom.
Be aware that choosing the "never save password for this site" option requires your browser to remember that choice, which paradoxically can give people away. A canny person who looks at that data can deduce that you do have a password for that site, which may in itself be info you'd rather keep hidden.

That's a fair point. But I'm mostly trying to hide this from a child.

I don't have kids, but if I did, it would simply be a matter of not storing the stuff on any computer they had access to.

Sure. That wasn't in the context of the original question, more just because the topic came up, and the "never remember" thing is a rather non-intuitive privacy risk that I know has brought some people a lot of unexpected trouble. Just your regularly scheduled topic drift.

You can get around this in Firefox - running in Private Browsing means that Firefox doesn't rememeber history, passwords etc and (supposedly anyway) clears out disk cache when the process ends. Just checked and Cliterotica doesn't show in my exceptions list for saved passwords.

I don't save any of my Lit stuff (writing or pictures) neither on my PC, nor on the laptop, everything is either on the phone (fingerprint protected) or on a dedicated google drive that goes with the AnnieLit email. I log into that drive only in the incognito mode, so the password is not stored on the PC or laptop. It is saved on the phone, but fingerprint protection is pretty hard to break.

I had three teens at home when I started writing. Didn't want to get into any Lit related discussions with them 🤣🤣

I do most of my rough writing on my phone in a password folder. Then when editing on my computer, I basically store the files in my email as attachments in sent emails.

And name the files really boring names. Work stuff. Something like "budget", training, HR bullshit.
I'm impressed!
I struggle to type a brief text message let alone write on a phone.

Chapeau

My kids don't use my computer without my permission... so in general - it's not a concern, though I am good at Command M to hide the screen...

I don't write using my real name, nor is my email address my real name, so there's no direct link - even if one day as they get old enough to go looking for some erotica to read, I doubt they'd know it's mine...

I also do my erotica writing in an online email account, saving as drafts... so that way - the erotica itself is not directly saved on my computer. Yeah - not amazing editing on that kind of platform vs Word or something... but it works for me for now.

Lots of practice.
My kid's laptops seem to be constantly at the shop for repairs, and since they were needed for school and homework. I had to share mine.

FYI, the extended warranty at Microcenter on computers is a great investment. I can't believe they continued to repair the computers.

I have a superb script that hides a folder within Windows, you can't even see that it exists. All you get is a simple text file where you enter a password and the folder jumps into view.
It would take a dedicated IT professional to even find it (if they knew it was there to find) and still they need to crack the password. A 32 character password including specials, numbers and capitals would seriously slow anyone down.

This.

When my kids realized my computer contains precisely ZERO downloaded games or apps, they lost all interest in it. They've got their own digital realms.

My plan is 100% effective - Don't Have Any Underage Kids

As for grandchildren... I use the same plan my parents used - That's Their Parent's Problem

However if I had kids I would store all my work on an external drive that required external power to work and was password protected at the OS level which makes it protected if I'm traveling also... just not protected from brain farts at the user level.

Currently, my child is not old enough to read, but when the little munchkin finally learns, I don't want to risk accidentally exposing them to the stuff I write.
Several options (Keep in mind, we have a litter of six, these are all guarantied to work):

1. Don't teach the little darling to read (They will teach themselves just to spoil your plan but save you $$$$$ in educational fees)

2. Teach them to read, just not English (see option number 1, however now you'll have a multilingual urchin for the same price)

3. Sexist plan #1 - if it's a boy hide the password under a bar of soap Their sister will find it and charge her brother money for it

4. Sexist plan #2 - if it's a girl hide the password under a bottle of diswashing detergent Their brother will find it and blackmail their sister for it

5. Quit now, change your nom de plum and start writing longwinded papers on bioinorganic DNA molecules in exoterrestrial chemical foundations which will work until they learn to use The Wayback Machine then you're screwed

6. Write everything in cursive and snail mail it to one of us old timers who will transcribe and post it for you this one is crazy enough to work!

7. This one is guarantied to work Tell them the truth. Tell them that mommy (or daddy, in case you change your mind later, it's getting weird out there) writes hard core, open marriage, non consensual graphic pornographic erotica that is published under a pseudonym that is associated with a picture of you and is posted on the world wide web. I know kids, I have six of them, I know how their minds work. They will think that you are covering up something embarrassing, like that you're writing lyrics for Taylor Swift or worse. They'll make up things to tell their friends... like that you write longwinded papers on bioinorganic DNA molecules in exoterrestrial chemical foundations or something like that. Imagine the look on their faces when I read an excerpt from a story of yours at your funeral! ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ That's the stuff that makes life fun

Now Duleigh, I read Enchantress. It was long as fuck, so I KNOW you can read!
None of my kids have read it, and one of them is a writer, so you know he's ready to pick my shit apart, another is a teacher, you know she's ready to rip my work to shreds, another is a gigolo, he's got nothing better to do than read porn while momma is out earning a paycheck - there you go, I've come up with the perfect plan

8. Keep your work to a minimum of 45,000 words, don't introduce sex until word #38,000

Exactly - they have their own tech, they don't need mine. Ok - there's a couple things they DO like that is only on my computer... but they still know they can't use it without asking. And even if they do access it... they're not going to find my erotica. As for pics that they shouldn't see of their mother and I... Ahhh

I'm bringing back this thread from the grave, because I'm curious if people's methods have changed. Also I can't get enough of this joke I made the last time we all discussed this topic.
↓↓↓↓
The adult offspring: "Mother, why did you create a scenario where a villainous man abuses two mind controlled women to serve his every sexual need, up to and including psychological torture?"

"Well child, the story is a dark, erotic horror which highlights the depths of human depravity and sadism. James is a contemptable villain, and you are supposed to be repulsed by his actions. I needed to show the horrors that humans are capable of if given complete control over another. As the saying goes: "Homo homini lupus"

"I understand... but why did you feature a woman squirting on another woman's face?"

"THAT WAS AN ACCIDENT!!! DON'T READ THAT!!!"

Anyway, the only thing that has changed for me is that now my son loves to snuggle against his mommy while I write. I know he can't read yet, but it still makes me uneasy to let him look at the screen while I type šŸ˜…

Well, I have given my dad my old phone for Christmas, and did get a bit paranoid over triple-checking the factory reset and that there was nothing at all of mine on the thing (everything should have been saved on my SIM and thus removed, but I certainly don't trust the tech...)

I do even more writing on my phone during endless appts and such. Everyone in the family knows you don't mess with other people's phones. Though the teens do still have trackers on theirs. Mostly because we've never bothered to remove them, and if they've never bothered to look or remove them, may as well leave as is. If they get to a point of removing them, then that's very useful info for their parents to have.

I get precisely the same feeling when my cat is on my lap while I'm writing.

In the early 2000’s my daughter and I shared a passion for HP fanfic and that’s when I started writing. On the desktop computer we shared I had a folder dadstuff\fiction\hpfanfic. That was fine, it was pg to pg-13. Being able to get into that gave her something to ā€œsnoopā€ on.
The stuff she wasn’t allowed to read was in dadshomework\compclasses\projectmgt\writeups
Writeups was a locked folder.
It also kept the wife out of it.
