During the COVID pandemic, the Pubs seemed to have the idea that lockdowns and mask mandates were some kind of threat to civil liberties. It was incredibly stupid and dangerous thinking, and Trump . . . well, let's just say he did not discourage it. But the stupidity was international.

Trump was counting on a low jobless rate to propel him to re-election. Faced with a pandemic that would require job-killing measures to contain it, he reacted like a toddler and denied the problem, or pushed snake-oil remedies. And he already had shut down the pandemic-response team Obama had created -- not because it was expensive, but only because Obama created it.

As a result, we lost hundreds of thousands of Americans whom a better administration easily could have saved.

This topical, because now, Jay Bhattacharya is to head the National Institutes of Health:

Bhattacharya opposed the lockdowns and mask mandates imposed in 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.[5][6] With Martin Kulldorff and Sunetra Gupta, he was a co-author in 2020 of the Great Barrington Declaration, which advocated lifting COVID-19 restrictions on lower-risk groups to develop herd immunity through widespread infection, while promoting the fringe notion that vulnerable people could be simultaneously protected from the virus.[7][8][9] The declaration was criticized as being unethical and infeasible by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization.[10]
An extremely dangerous crank.

Trump told Bob Woodward back in Feb. 2020 just how dangerous Covid was. When asked how he was going to handle things he replied, "Keep the people calm." Instead of putting the first person who had Covid19 in quarantine along with all the crew and passengers, Trump allowed them to go their way to all corners of our nation, carrying Covid19 everywhere. Before things got too bad Trump made one of his great deals with OPEC, Russia, and Mexico in April 2020 to decrease oil production which increased the price of a barrel of oil which meant gas prices increased, heating oil prices increased and anything using oil in manufacturing caused the price of goods to increase. In the end, the last report I read had 1.1 million plus dead from Covid.

Oh noes Trump didn't go full Hitler the way Democrats wish they could have.
See what I mean?

From Trump's point of view his greatest consolation is that the millions of folk who had most cause to complain are no longer around to do so. The number of experts that have subsequently emerged with 20/20 hindsight is totally un-surprising.

Experts were available at the time. They were too much ignored.

There was nothing psychotic control freak commie about lockdowns either.

LMFAO!!! it was absolutely that.

Conformist totalitarianism and authoritarianism rearing it's ugly head. Almost exclusively at the behest of the left....totally NOT shocking.

We are only talking about entirely reasonable disease-containment measures. Stuff that would save lives. Nothing that would subvert the existing social or economic order.

This was an unknown health situation caused by China and even the experts couldn’t agree on the right course of action. It went too far though. Initially only the elderly or compromised people were at risk, just like the flu, but the Democrats decided this was a great opportunity to exercise complete control. Mandating shots and masks, when neither worked, showed how far the government can go to invade our personal lives. I don’t think Americans will let this happen again.

Trump was concerned about a second term, as most politicians are and I think he let the pretend experts make decisions instead of going with his instinct. The first mistake was changing the name from the Wuhan virus and giving cover to the Chinese government. He was wrong to do this, he won’t give China a chance to do this again.

Only because they tried to cover it up. They did not design the virus as a bioweapon or anything.
Oh gosh of course they didn’t. Accidental viruses that kill people totally happen all the time and are not engineered by brilliant scientists for human destruction. The cover up is always the problem isn’t it? Never the crime or the criminal.

You’re such a good dog. My dog never gets tired of obeying either. Well, sometimes they don’t want to listen, but in the end they always do.

One day if you decide to think for yourself, you might be surprised that the sky won’t fall for not towing your Democrat party line.
