Looking after my people, my charges
My children, coworkers, comrades in arms

My family, all those I say are my people

The courage to stand when I want to crawl
Damping down my fears and hesitance
Pushing past the tired and laziness
The courage to rest and be rested

The courage to face an unwelcome tide
To know when to speak or not
Which will serve my people best

Rainy Day Dreams


When the world was young
And the land had settled
The seas rose and fell
In a love affair with the moon
There walked the Earth
The oldest of the old
Shepherds of the trees
Their hooms and homs
Unhastily do they stride
Singing their long slow songs
Of the Entwives long gone
Their mead, like refreshing rain
Makes you strong and merry
And opens your eyes
And you see just who is an Ent
Who's gone rather treeish in their sleep
And those trees whose deep snores
Seem to have become a bit Entish
Fine spirits they are
Deep in the dark forest
Awakening in startled contemplation
Was it dreams, memories, too much drink?
Another bowl of that mead, if you please
A sleepy nod and knowing smile

Visiting mountain streams and forests
Strands of sand and rock by the sea

On paved roads and busy city streets

My backpack filled with far memories

Filled or empty of strangers and friends

Miles behind us and even more ahead
Sunsets, starlight, campfires, and sunrises

Silvery moonlight brings magic to the night
With promises of love, friendship, and laughter

Go with me to places where the sun's heat rules
To places of terrific rain and bitter cold snow

With palm trees, crashing waves, and breezy hammocks
In cabins on high slopes with snow covered evergeens

On sailing ships, scenic long trainrides, in cars of all types
And on our own two feet, eating up all those many miles

Through Autumn forests with leaves of brilliant hues
Across prairies and deserts, lakes, seas, and rushing rivers

Go with me to see the Aurora, to the stars and beyond
To the foriegn lands of mystery and adventure alive

To ancient lands with an ancient air and relics all about
To new lands fresh with scent of sulfur and Terran fire

We'll find delight and horror in things both large and small
A witness to all the universe will show if we have the will

Go with me to sleep tonight, visiting my varied dreams
Both tame and wild, awakening with smiles and knowing

Knowing that there is more, always more and more
As we change our torn and tattered shoes, always more

Rushing off to plays and shows, music and voices
Voices alive in passionate speeches and lively songs

No time for that, nope, leave that alone too, let it go

On the Night Train,

After a day spent on the lifts and slopes

The powder fresh, perfect, and clean,

Downhill, the frozen wind taking our breath away

To town, and shopping throughout the day

With more than a few breaks for cocoa, whiskey, or wine

The infectious cheefulness blessing us with smiles

After dinner, songs and whiskey by the fire

We take the last Night Train and return by moonlight

To the lodge and our room lit with the fireplace

And a night full of love, desire, pleasure

To fill our hearts and minds to the end of time

To stand in awe of our place in human history and progression

To go from place to place

Be it grand palace or temple

Or a simple human abode swallowed up by the forest
