Jin walked into his English class that morning and found that his teacher was handing back their tests from last week, their first test of the year. As he took his seat, his teacher Mrs. Hunt, came up to him and handed back his exam. "Only perfect score in the class. Well done." she said as she moved on to the next student. Jin smiled to himself but he could see from the expressions on his classmates' faces that some of the others hadn't done nearly as well.
He had always received good grades, but it still felt good to see that "A" on the top of his paper. Jin was a fairly typical nerd at his school. His grades were exceptional, but not much else about him was. His circle of friends was small and close-knit, mostly other nerds like himself, who endured endless jokes and snide remarks by focusing on other things, like their studies or their own hobbies. The only real social contact he had with people outside of his small group of friends was the tutoring that he had been doing on the side since last year. He'd never had a girlfriend, not because he was unattractive or had no social graces, but he simply had no idea how to even approach the subject. He had come to the point where he had just accepted it as a part of his life and had thrown himself into other things, for better or for worse.
