SourceThe Supreme Court refused to fast-track the House subpoena effort in pursuit of President Trump’s financial records and tax returns, denying requests from Democrat-led committees asking the high court*to send the cases to the lower courts faster than usual.
"The applications for orders to issue the judgments forthwith, presented to The Chief Justice and by him referred to the Court, are denied,” the short order from the Supreme Court said on Monday, adding only that “Justice Sotomayor would grant the applications.”
It usually takes the Supreme Court 25 days to send cases down to the appeals court for further litigation, but Democrats asked the justices to move that time frame up by two weeks. On July 7, the Supreme Court ruled largely in Trump’s favor that the lower courts did not properly consider the separation of powers between Congress and the presidency when ruling in favor of the Democrats, who will not get to continue their fight in court until Aug. 3.
