How many people do you think post here at least once a week?

I'm frequently amazed at the kind of information some of you are able to collect. Can anyone make a reliable stab at answering this question?

By "here" I guess I mean AH.

I guess there's no way to know how many readers there are, but that would be interesting too. How many readers visit at least once a week?

Edit 2/21/24 - There have been about 379 people posting to AH in the last week (and earlier in longer threads." See names here.

Someone could write a script to figure that out. That someone wouldn’t be me though 🤣

As somebody who has only recently started reading the AH. I feel like it is a very small pool...
I did have a look a couple of years ago. It was a quick look, and I walked away because of the ridiculousness.
I expected writing advice and tips. Unfortunately, there's not enough of that (In my opinion)
You could take ten names out of here, the regular posters, and the AH would collapse.

Just my thoughts.

I post regularly. It's part of my morning coffee routine, and when I take a break during the day. Except I've not got coffee.

Yeah, I feel the exact same. I honestly feel like there are not more than forty people active in the AH.

I think, if OP just waits for a week, they can answer their question simply by checking who replied to this thread.

Feeling rather targeted. :cautious: And to answer the OP's question. I'd venture a guess that most of the regulars here are probably posting multiple times daily.
True, true. Can you count the regulars?

Something over 314 accounts, since that's how many out of over 2.4 million registered accounts are on the board this minute.

Authors' Hangout

A place for writers and readers to socialize and discuss the craft of writing

There is definitely more socialising than discussion, but when someone posts a serious question, there's usually some good information before the thread derails.

If you're looking for actual advice, or a straight up answer, it can usually be found within the first 10 posts, after that its Memes, 'look at me instead of the OP' and the same people having conversations on the forum like they're on the phone.

I see this as a good example of society in general. An ADD level attention span for the actual topic, then a bunch of jealous attention seeking because oh, no, they're answering someone's question...must...get...them...to ...talk...about....me!!!!

AH Twitter, or X or whatever it is now.

The past couple of years any serious conversation I've had on writing has been through PM or e-mail.

But most of those are readers of stories, right? Or is "the board" only forums?

Those stats are from the board side, which seems to have some separation from the story side, so I have no idea how they related to readers.

OK, I've set myself a project. Not very scientific, but satisfying to me.

Today I went through all the threads that show up on the first page of AH (excluding game threads). I stepped through them and recorded unique instances of usernames. If the thread had a lot of pages I just looked at the last few. At the end of my search today I had 160 names. I'm going to look at them again for the rest of the week.

Already today I'd gotten to the point where there were very few new names.

Stay tuned!

I check the AH section a couple times a day and add my two cents where the topic is interesting and I think I have something to add. If what I have to say has already been posted, I nod my head, click the "Like" icon, and keep reading.
