Trump administration secretly siphoned millions out of New York Firefighters' health program

September 11, 2020

On 9/11, many political officials—people like Donald Trump and Mike Pence—make appearances around the country. They make speeches and take solemn photographs near memorials. They make it a point to remind people how brave our country’s police and fire departments and other first responders are. Now The New York Daily News has a depressingly explosive story about the Trump administration’s way of remembering.

According to the report, millions of dollars have been withheld from the Fire Department of New York’s (FDNY) World Trade Center Health Program, a program that was set up exclusively for them and which “tracks and treats FDNY firefighters and medics suffering from 9/11 related illnesses.” How much money? Where has it gone? Why have they done it? All of these questions have been pursued since the beginning of the Trump administration when the program’s director, Dr. David Prezant, first started seeing hundreds of thousands of dollars being “docked” by the U.S. Treasury.

Nearly every Democrat (Some were Democrat in name only, in a Trump supporter state)
had voted to provide medical funding to terribly ill and dying Frirst Responders-
Republicans had let the funding lapse, and did not care to renew it. The issue earned
national attention, when Jon Stewart sat before the committee and pleaded for these
veterans of the devastation. A man that only had days to live pleaded for all survivors.
Trump's loyalists had promised Trump that they would not spend money on the heroes.
They had to break their promise to Trump- or become notorious for letting Americans
suffer and die.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) also chimed in later Monday to
criticize McConnell, sharing on Twitter a Daily Beast story about the Republican's
remarks headlined: "Mitch McConnell Wonders Why Jon Stewart Is ‘All Bent Out
of Shape’ Over 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund."

"I’ll tell you why," Schumer wrote online. "Because 9/11 victims are getting sicker,
and the last time this bill came up you delayed. @SenateMajLdr McConnell:
Ease everyone’s worthy concerns right now by committing to put the bill on the
floor for a stand-alone vote as soon as the House passes it."

Trump found a way to grift money from the sick, injured, and dying. 4 million is missing
The Trump administration has secretly siphoned nearly Correction- $4 million away from
a program that tracks and treats FDNY firefighters and medics suffering from 9/11
related illnesses, the Daily News has learned.

The Trump administration has secretly siphoned nearly $4 million away from a program that tracks and treats FDNY firefighters and medics suffering from 9/11 related illnesses, the Daily News has learned.

The Treasury Department mysteriously started withholding parts of payments — nearly four years ago — meant to cover medical services for firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics treated by the FDNY World Trade Center Health Program, documents obtained by The News reveal.

The payments were authorized and made by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, which oversees the program. But instead of sending the funds to the city, the Treasury started keeping some of the money.

“This was just disappearing,” the program’s director, Dr. David Prezant, told The News. “This is the most amazing thing. This was disappearing — without any notification.”

"Moscow Mitch" McConnell has been denying health care to 9/11 responders since 2010.
He stalls, and forces everyone to give him something that he wants, and gives little in return.
Shame means nothing to Mitch. He has his personal bank vault where his heart should be.

Any chance of 9/11 First Response survivors and veterans of the killing scene getting help ?

Trump and Mike Pence made sure their faces were on TV, using 9/11 as stage background.

The Liberal Demcrats want $2 trillion dollars to help Americans out of the coronavirus hole

Trump wants to scrape $2 trillion from the budget to provide another tax vacation to 1%

Hours after the Republican Party released a coronavirus relief proposal including $0
for election assistance funding and no additional funding for cities and states as the
country continues to combat the coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. Senate passed its
version of the National Defense Authorization Act.

On Thursday, the U.S. Senate allocated $740.5 billion to the Pentagon.

The annual military budget bill was passed with a vote of 86-14, with 37 Democrats
joining the Republicans in supporting the proposal.

Progressives including Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.),and
Ed Markey (D-Mass.) voted against the bill.

The bill was passed a day after an amendment proposed by Sanders and Markey
to cut the Pentagon's budget by 10% and redirect that funding toward significant
investments in education, healthcare, and housing in poor communities—
was rejected in the Senate, with a majority of Democrats siding with the GOP.

Sanders noted that the GOP bill—which does not include any additional aid for state and local governments—would not prevent teachers and other public employees from losing their jobs due to steep budget cuts that are already having a destructive impact across the nation. As of August, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, "about 1.1 million public-sector workers had lost their jobs since February, an estimated 668,000 (59 percent) of them in education."

"The same Republicans who had no problem voting for a trillion-dollar tax break for the top one percent and large corporations two years ago are now telling 40 million Americans who are struggling to pay for housing that we cannot afford to help them pay their rent or mortgage," Sanders continued. "The same Republicans who just voted to provide $740 billion for the Pentagon and the military-industrial complex to wage endless wars are now telling 30 million workers who lost their jobs that we cannot afford to continue the $600-a-week supplement they were receiving in unemployment benefits."

Here’s Jon Stewart smirking at Moscow Mitch following a major victory for 9/11
survivors and activists. The September 11th Victim Compensation Fund was extended
to cover first responders for the rest of their lives, a major defeat for the GOP, who
stalled the bill. #NeverForget

Reality Check: Memories Of Donald Trump And His Lies About 9/11

New Day’s Alysin Camerota introduced John Avlon’s look back at 9/11 and Donald Trump.

“Today is September 11th, and you are looking at live pictures of the Pentagon. This morning, Washington and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and New York City commemorate the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on this day 19 years ago,” she said.

“President Trump was in New York during that terrible time and he has told stories about his experience, but his stories about those days often include conspiracy theories. They remain unproven. CNN’s John Avlon, who was working for Rudy Giuliani at that time, has a reality check about all of this.”

“Today marks 19 years since 9/11,” Avlon said.

“We see a president who likes to talk tough about radical Islamic terrorism, insulting
the courage of the soldiers and generals who have been fighting the war on terror
ever since. So let’s look back to see what Donald Trump was doing on 9/11,
after the first responders ran into the fire.

"40 Wall Street actually was the second tallest building in downtown Manhattan.
Now it’s the tallest."

Yes, Trump managed to use a tragic terrorist attack in real time to pump up the size
of his skyscraper. Years later, Trump bragged about being on the rubble of Ground Zero.“

Trump claims he helped clear 9/11 rubble "a little bit"

Trump claimed he helped clear the rubble from 9/11. The tape tells a different story:

He spent ‘a lot of time’ at Ground Zero

Trump has often suggested that he was at the center of the cleanup effort, but no evidence
has emerged to support that claim. A newspaper report placed him near the scene on
Sept. 14, 2001, talking on a cellphone, and a photo of him was taken on Sept. 18 outside
the New York Stock Exchange. But an extensive New York Times examination of this
claim found no one who could remember him playing any role in the cleanup or even
supplying any workers.

Nevertheless, in his comments marking the 18th anniversary, Trump said:
“Soon after, I went down to Ground Zero with men who worked for me to try
to help in any little way that we could.”

Last year, he visited Shanksville, where he paid tribute to the passengers of Flight 93,
who died disrupting the plan of terrorists to crash one of their hijacked planes into the
U.S. Capitol.

On Wednesday, the president repeated his claim that he went to Ground Zero days
after the attacks, in an effort to help those at the site.

“Soon after I went down to Ground Zero with men who worked for me to try to help
in any little way that we could,” he said. “We were not alone. So many others were
scattered around trying to do the same. They were all trying to help.”

Trump did go to Ground Zero after the attacks. But after he claimed in 2016 that he
“helped a little bit” with clearing rubble at the site, his campaign did not respond to
a request for details.
