I had this idea for the setup of an erotic mystery story, but could never figure out where it should go:

A girl, let's say a university student, wakes up in hospital. She learns that she's been in an accident, which has given her retrograde amnesia so that she cannot remember the previous year of her life. After recovery, she tries to pick back up as the studious, chaste, modest girl (perhaps even a virgin) she always used to be. However, she gradually finds out that over the course of the lost year she changed, for unknown reasons, into being extremely promiscuous and hypersexual, and that that's what everyone now expects from her.

So she tries to unravel the mystery of what actually happened to turn her so slutty (which in the end is going to tie in with the accident, somehow), while at the same time having to navigate all sorts of sexual situations that are, at least at first, completely foreign to her. And if she's going to get any answers, she'll have to play along—in part because engaging in various sex acts gives her flashes of recollection from the time she has lost, and may be the only way to recover her memory.

Any ideas for what she'll discover or what she'll have to do?

Interesting premise.

If she's straight, it could be interesting if she's contacted by her lesbian girlfriend that she has no recollection of.

The lesbian could have intimate knowledge of how the protagonist likes to be touched.

The lesbian gf might also work as a sidekick, maybe helping the protagonist uncover the mystery, while also hitting on her and flirting with her.

Also, maybe a mysterious person is sending her pics and videos of her nude and semi-nude while engaging in different sex acts.

The protagonist could be mortified that this stuff is floating around out there, but forces herself to watch them for possible clues (and perhaps gets a little turned on watching them?)

Very interesting idea. I'll have to think on it for a while. It's petty much good to go as is, but the ending is the missing piece, yes?

Thanks, @Rob_Royale! The ending is definitely part of what's missing, but basically I feel like I have the premise for the story but little idea of what will actually happen, beyond the generic "she investigates and has sex." I'm throwing it out here because it's still very half-baked, and even after tossing it around for a long while I haven't made any real progress with it. Coming up with an ending (with an explanation for what actually happened to her in the past) should certainly help with figuring out what the path to get there has to be.

I also think the pitch is lacking something to add tension and suspense to the plot. I like @ChuckWolf's idea of a mysterious person sending videos—something along those lines is needed to raise the stakes and drive things along.

Perhaps as she begins investigating, she discovers another woman showing similar "symptoms". Perhaps it's easier to investigate this woman than to investigate herself.

Cutting to the chase, some professor is working on a female viagra and has accidentally created a super aphrodisiac.

And if she's going to get any answers, she'll have to play along—in part because engaging in various sex acts gives her flashes of recollection from the time she has lost, and may be the only way to recover her memory.

"I simply have to take that guy I barely know to bed, and let him shove his cock up my ass! How else would I remember what happened to me!?" - FMC. :ROFLMAO:

I'm honestly not sure how you're going to sell this angle in a realistic way, but I am highly intrigued! I think this is one of the more interesting plot ideas I've read here since I joined Lit a few months ago, because it's a simple setup that would require some highly complicated execution to work well. Once it's finished, please make a post here in the thread with a link so I get a notification and can read it!

Some thoughts that might be of value:

I think that in any good mystery, you want to introduce a couple of potential 'suspects' pretty early so that the reader can try to 'figure out' what happened ahead of time, and then you sort of hit them with what is least expected.

You need a good reason for why her friends and such doesn't know what happened. Otherwise they could just tell her. Meaning the events leading up to the accident can't have been too obvious or have been on-going for a long time prior, at least not openly.

I do agree that it needs tension. One idea is that she keeps finding some type of clearly planted clues? And either she believes that someone is messing with her, or trying to help her? Or maybe that she left them for herself? But then you, yet again, need a reason why she wouldn't just make it more obvious. If she saw the accident coming somehow.

Potential plot twist: She caused the accident herself because she found herself unhappy at the bottom of the rabbit hole of 'sluttery', and wanted to regain her innocence somehow. And she realizes this only when reaching the deepest pits of depravity yet again. Would be kind of depressing, though. 🤔

For inspiration, I recommend you check out the '90s action film The Long Kiss Goodnight starring Geena Davis and Samuel L Jackson.

Perhaps a reaction to a party drug triggered her slutty split personality to manifest and her alter ego doesn't want to go, which might be why she's the one sending explicit vids and pics of herself to herself.

Perhaps, subconsciously, her slutty side is the real persona or at least, the happier one.

This is a nice premise.

Foremost, you need to decide why she'd became a slut:
1) Natural course of action after she list her virginity.
2) Developing split personality after somehow dramatic first time, like it could take BDSM turn. But not necessary negatively dramatic - maybe her orgasm was so strong tgat she both wants and fears achieving it again.
3) Drugs, aliens, magic, succubi - choose your favorite.

The investigation of reasons has an extra layer because she's in her old virgin self, while everyone else treats her like a slut. But she can use it to her advance. Like, the person who have a piece of evidence reveals it for a blowjob - so she gives it to him. She's a dom for some sub, and dhe just to need tease and order her. Every such action make her realize that she may be a slut indeed, and by the end, she has to decide who she really is.

What about making her a phycology student, but one that was brought up in church, the kind of child that was expected to be inside any time it's doors were opened.

As others have said, she sees evidence of her sexual depravity, and knows she is being followed, but by whom?

It could be anyone, but a possible ending might be a fellow college kid, but one who was a pastors's kid who saw she needed release from her overzealous religious upbringing and concocted a drug that limited her memory while inducing her libido. He has been following her and taking photos of her depravity, done so because he realizes that a life in the church has given her unjustified guilt that he knows she need not restrain. Confronted with what she has done sexually; she must act, either by admitting she wants to live a sexual devious lifestyle, or revert to being prim, proper and conservative.

Of course this is literotica so she chooses the latter.

For an ending, I would jump ahead by a year or two and have the pastors kid and her wed, possibly the ending being on her wedding night, discussing the ultra conservative wedding they just had as she prepares to give her new husband a show that he will never forget... her being gangbanged by many other men as he watches. (Really, insert any devious kind of sex here that you want). Anything to show that these two people are going to have the kind of marriage where it looks like the typical conservative marriage for their families benefit, but behind locked doors, their marriage is anything but... all because he concocted a drug that lets a woman be her true self without memory of it.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I think they show that the story can go in all sorts of different directions.

So it seems the reason behind her original change is the main thing that needs to be defined. I'd want to stay away from the split personality route—I have another story idea that uses it—and probably anything involving aphrodisiac drugs, mind control or anything supernatural.

I'm currently leaning towards the idea that there would be clues suggesting that she was being coerced into it, but then ultimately it turns out that it was her own free choice all along—just a combination of sexual awakening and acting out. The trigger? I guess something major caused her to reevaluate her worldview. What if she discovered that her (supposedly sexually conservative) parents were actually swingers? And the shock and feelings of betrayal, as well as realizing that she has inherited those same sexual desires, made her reject her ideas about chastity and start to explore sex? Then along the way she got caught up in the rush and took it too far, hurting some people in the process—maybe she fooled around with her best friend's boyfriend and broke up both the couple and the friendship.

The mysterious, vaguely sinister things happening now (videos sent, sex toys appearing in her room or what have you) could turn out to be her roommate/former lover (unbeknown to her) trying to help her gradually come to terms with the person she had become. Or maybe that's just part of the explanation, and there really is someone targeting her, too, so that the solution doesn't turn into a big anticlimax.

That's gratifying, thanks, but no promises. Like I said, the reason I posted about it here is that it was pretty half-baked; unlike other ideas that I tell myself I'll do one day (haven't finished anything yet, though some are in pretty extensive draft form), this didn't feel like it was something I could actually write as of now. Though it's been fun to kick the idea around, and all the input has given me some new inspiration, so perhaps…

I believe in you. Let me know if you need an editor. I'm invested now. 😊

I offer a mashup of the plots of two older movies, Overboard (1987), and Groundhog Day (1993).

The MFC, a sorority sister at the U, was going out to meet Dave, her boyfriend at State, when she hits her head. Naturally -- just like it always happens in movies -- she gets amnesia where she forgets key parts of her life in order to forward the plot. Her sorority sisters think that it would be fun to mess with her. So they tell her that some random guy is her boyfriend Dave. (Who she is madly in love with.)

Of course all the guys are more than happy to go along...

Guys... Yes, the plural, because each morning after the accident she wakes up and to her it is the same day. The day she was going to meet Dave. She has no concept of the passage of time and each day goes out to meet her "boyfriend" and like they say.

Each morning it's a new Dave.

Makes me think of the movies "Memento" or "50 First Dates." I'm a bit foggy on how she blacks out about an entire year of her life - is that really a thing? Damn frightening idea if it's a real thing. If I'm reading your idea correctly -

1) Something happens to her (an accident) - and when she "recovers," she's an absolute slut.
2) Something ELSE happens to her that, er, resets her back to her default settings. Is that right?

As a reader, we pick up after the reset - she know something happened with that lost year, but not quite what - is that it?

What those movies portray is anterograde amnesia: inability to form new memories. When it involves forgetting things that happened before the injury, trauma or disease, it's called retrograde amnesia.

It's rare (less common than anterograde amnesia), but it can happen, yes. The Wikipedia page on retrograde amnesia lists among others a case study of a patient GH who woke up from surgery in 2002 believing that it was 1989, having lost all recollection of the intervening time. And losing a shorter period of time – a few minutes or hours – leading up to something like a concussion is relatively common, AFAIK. I've experienced it myself.

No, not quite. (1) was not part of my idea: my thinking was that she becomes promiscuous not because of brain injury, but by some "natural" process over the course of a few months. But then she gets in an accident and loses her memory of all that, thinking herself still the innocent she was a year ago, and the story picks up from there. Uncovering the events that turned her so slutty would be a major part of the story.

Of course, anyone who feels inspired can take the idea in a different direction if they want.

The twist should be that all of the information that she has become a slut in the missing year has been planted by someone and completely fake. But in uncovering it, she has indeed become a slut.

That's a fun idea, and if I ever write this story I'll try to use it, either as the solution or a fakeout.

Incidentally, I just rewatched Perfect Blue (the classic psychological thriller/giallo anime), and while the premise is quite different it shares the theme of the heroine's dissociation from who she has become, with her sense of identity splitting into "pure" and a "corrupted" self-images. It gave me some ideas for elements that could fit into this story.
